Sudden Broadcast From the Mountain

MEET MOTHER SUPERIOR

On October 3rd, everyone's Fluids will begin to crackle and let out a high-pitched wailing alarm. This lasts approximately one minute before the screen on the front goes black. A soft whirring noise will then hum through the phone, and finally the screen fuzzes back to life.

A video is playing. Only this video doesn't seem to be playing through the DeerFeed app. It doesn't seem to be playing through any app at all. The transmission starts on an empty table, the screen glitching often. Eventually, a woman approaches the table and sits down behind it. She is wearing a nun's habit. On her face is a gas mask that some may recognize from what the Wastes constantly wear.

"Hello, my sweet residents of Deerington. It's me, Mother Superior again. I am terribly sorry I haven't been able to contact you recently. All is well in the Lab, but I'm afraid things have been delayed since those deer downed the power lines," the woman speaks in a pleasant voice, but when she mentions the deer, her words twist in obvious distaste. "And lord, did she put up a fuss against some of our sedation techniques these past few weeks."

"But no matter!" She claps her gloved hands together, her shoulders shrugging up in animated delight. "Now that we have power back, we may proceed with Test 137. We think this may just do the trick!"

Mother Superior then sets down a black leather box and carefully opens it. She removes from the box a small platform on which a strange looking light bulb is hooked up to.

"We managed to capture enough of her essence and put it in here," Mother Superior explained. "I know it seems a bit barbaric...But we must be freed from her. We cannot continue to live like this!"

Her voice spikes high for a split second, but then she's readjusting her mask and folding her hands together.

"Forgive me. My heart aches for my town. Let us pray that this shall work." Mother Superior then touches her fingers to the light bulb's surface. She leans forward and stares at the bulb intensely. The transmission begins to go out of focus, humming loudly once more, and the light bulb slowly begins to glow brighter and brighter until it's nearly blinding.

Only when it gets to that point does a horrid scream rip through Deerington. Not through the transmission. No, it sounds like the scream pulses from the very air itself, deafening in its strength and it lasts on and on until-

-The light bulb in the video shatters. Then the entire world of Deerington goes completely dark.

Every character will experience at least one of the following symptoms for an entire hour after this video is posted:
➟ They will pass out and remain unconscious for the hour.
➟ They will be extremely queasy and every five to ten minutes, they'll have to vomit up blood.
➟ The entire world around them feels so completely disoriented that they can't see or walk straight. It'll be completely impossible for them to reorient themselves no matter how hard they try.
➟ They will have an unbelievably immense fear of leaving their homes. Even approaching the door may give them a heart attack out of sheer fright. Going near windows may inspire similar feelings.

Characters may experience multiple symptoms. All characters will go back to normal after the hour has passed, and when they do, they will find that Deerington has changed greatly outside.

Welcome to the Nightmare.

SOME COPIES OF DEERINGTON POST IS DELIVERED ON OCTOBER 3rd

While the dogs of the Dog Keeper had seemed healthier the last time people saw them, this time they seem to barely be functioning. They'll sound like TV caught on a horrible static channel, only partially fuzzing into existence. You may see their snout and some of their legs or maybe you'll only see their vague shape. You won't even be able to touch them like you normally would be able to. The dogs whine in distress, and drop the newspaper before crackling out of existence.

Because of the chaotic nature of the dogs, not everyone will get a copy of the Deerington Post. The dogs don't seem to have the same reach they normally do in the current circumstances.

And when you get to the paper itself? It seems like even the Dog Keeper was impacted by the violence of Mother Superior's announcement.

The Dog Keeper cannot be accessed all of October. The dogs will also be missing. Any packages or letters you wish to deliver in the traditional sense will sit all month. Fluids will still operate as always.

The following clues are applicable only to the second part of the event which will be posted on the 11th. You may have characters discuss theories until that point, but no one will be able to solve the problem until the second part has been posted and those interested have signed up. Your character does not have to be signed up for the second part to discuss it. Sign-ups will go up when the second part goes up.

You cannot access the mountain at this time. None of the staircases will be available. If you go towards the mountain, you will hear a low, soft humming on an endless loop. If you look at the mountain hard enough, it almost looks like a strange being curled up. Except this time, there's no hole in the middle. It's just layer of rock fused together, seeming to bind the figure. One cannot see the head of this being though, for those legs that had once been seen over the mountain now engulf the entire top part of it. It seems as though the legs are digging in, actively grasping and trying to keep hold.
