[ thom hasn't exactly had a moment of feeling genuinely confident about his powers since the attack on the bus (and even that had eventually been spoiled by him getting distracted by his hero worship), so louis' genuine approval of his idea for marking their way through the maze does quite a lot to bolster his confidence as he follows along beside louis.

he's not paying nearly as much attention to their surroundings as louis is though, glancing down at his hands intermitently with clear concern on his face. eventually, he manages to rouse himself into voicing some of his concerns aloud. ]
