Between the chaos that's gone down with the various 'games' happening right now, in addition to the shortage that's been ongoing, most people are, understandably, staying in when they can. He can only stay in the house for so long, none of them are that great at laying low. It probably should have occurred to him that new people could end up getting dragged in here, with probably the worst timing he's seen since his own arrival, and they would naturally be confused about why the town's practically shuttered. Not empty, but definitely not welcoming, even by Deerington's standards, which were kind of frosty even on a good day.
His walk from the school back to the house takes him past one of the restaurants in town, one that's been closed for a few weeks and is unlikely to open back up until they get reasonable supplies coming back in, but it's obviously news to the young blonde woman peering in through the front window.
At least it's easy to spot a fellow Sleeper. Anyone who doesn't match the weird pastel color scheme of the locals is someone else like him, someone who doesn't belong here, and it's hard to say for sure, but he's pretty sure he hasn't seen her before. He might not know everyone in town personally, but he figures he's seen all of them at one point or another. And honestly, whenever he sees long blonde hair and a figure like that he's going to take a second look. It's not just about whether or not she's attractive - though he's not exactly blind to that - but it's more due to the fact that he doubts he'll ever stop wondering if Jessica might make her way here. People come from different years, different worlds even, it could happen.
