Curufin is fresh from being in a state of battle rage, and his own dark gray eyes reflect this. But he does not feel or express rage at the man who tried to bail him out of a dire situation. Instead, he looks deeply into the Doctor's brown eyes and sees the resident shadows. This man has seen death and destruction and yet hasn't succumbed to the urge to become destructive.

"Maybe not. However, it was one of the few options open to me during most of my life, and I became quite good at it. When I see something monstrous that seems to want to kill me or other people, I usually respond by killing it before it gets the chance. But you seem to adhere to a different philosophy and way of life. What do you think would have happened if I had run and let you deal with the creatures? And what will happen now? Will the creatures never come out of their holes to attack or kill another Deerington resident?"
