(Eddie absently picks up his mug and takes a long sip, mostly because he wasn't sure what to say about all that. It was easier said than done, he thinks, and he sets his mug back down eventually.)
I mean. I live every day with them like it might be the last day I get with them. Sometimes... (Sometimes he had started to let himself believe that they really weren't going anywhere, but truthfully he was scared by what would happen when they finally did.)
Sometimes I hold back too though. (It's not something he'd admit to the others. Out of fear of hurting them, maybe. But to Stan...Stan with his scars and Stan who would probably understand. Maybe even a little. Eddie slumps forward and puts his head into both of his hands, sighing.)
You know I'm not brave like you are. (He picks his head back up a second later, and his eyes go back down to those scars.) Not so sure any of us were.
(Are. He doesn't know. He scoots a hand out across the table, fingers hesitantly touching the side of Stan's hand.)
Why'd you leave us, Stan? (It's unfair to ask, maybe, but they had made a promise. And while Eddie had seen the vision of Stan's death before, he had never learned why.)
