[ well. that's one less thing to worry about, though it doesn't change the fact that the girl in front of him is bloodied, and that the blood had to come from somewhere. billy still looks her over regardless, his eyes darting quickly, searching for any sign of serious or critical injury, and coming back with... nothing.
okay. so that checks out. his eyes dart back up to her face, and he observes her for a handful of seconds as she continues looking around, almost wriggling in his hold as she twists to check her surroundings. billy absently notes the stickiness beneath his bare hands. didn't really think that through, but it's not like he had a whole lot of time to react once he realized what he was hearing wasn't actually someone out for a jog.
still, he doesn't let her go, but he keeps his grip loose enough that if she really wanted to, she could easily break away from him. billy takes another quick glance around too, first over the top of her head (she's quite a bit shorter than he is), and then backwards over his own shoulder - and still, nothing. ]
Okay, [ he says, gentle but attentive, hoping maybe if he stays calm, it'll help calm her down too, if only a little. ] Okay, I'll help you get to wherever you're trying to go, I promise, but - but can you tell me what happened? What are you running from, why are you—
[ billy lets go of one of her arms, turning his hand slightly to expose his palm, the blood he's picked up from her. ]

Where did this come from? ... Is someone hurt?
