Diana swallows back a sob when she's pulled into his arms. She hasn't forgotten what he's told her, about moving on and all that. But how can she do that when he's right here in front of her? And she knows this is temporary, that they will be parted again, and somehow she has to pick up the pieces of her heart a third time and move on. It's downright cruel.
But it isn't Steve's fault. It's not her fault either. And there's little point in bemoaning it at the moment. "I am. And you're here, too. It's..." Wonderful but bittersweet. Joyful but also heartbreaking. The words fail to manifest, and so she just lets the sentence trail.
When he apologizes, Diana shakes her head and steps back, putting a hand on his cheek. "I just got here myself," she says. "I've been here less than a day. If anything, I should apologize. I never thought to look and see if you could be here. Have... have you been in this town long?"
