YOU'VE GOT MAIL!

A COPY OF DEERINGTON POST IS DELIVERED ON AUGUST 30th!

On the morning of August 30th, everyone will wake up to Deerington as it was. No more endless dark at night, no more endless bright during the day. The sun will be up in the sky on a clear, beautiful August day. The air is a little cooler than usual, but then again, autumn is just around the corner! The trees of Deerington will begin to turn color for the season sometime around the second week of September. Isn't that exciting? Fall is on its way!

Sitting outside the front door of just about everyone will be one of the Delivery Dogs. They have a new copy of the Deerington Post but ah- are the dogs okay? They seem much glitchier than usual. Their fur goes static and their eyes radiate different colors. They seem friendly as usual though, but they seem to be in some sort of quiet pain, soft yips and whines. Anyone who tries to soothe the animals will find that the dog will huddle up for comfort before eventually crackling out of existence. Huh. Wonder what's going on with them?

Might as well read the paper. Maybe that will have a hint?

THE DEERINGTON POST

Hello, hello Sleepers and Weepers of Deerington! Yikes! That was a scary blackout, huh? Hope everyone managed to stay safe. Sorry I couldn't get through to all of you, but there as some discrepancy in our usual programming on our end too. The dogs are still feeling under the weather.

Was it me or did you all wind up sleeping through the day too? Haha! Weird! Guess what they say about napping on those pristine summer days is true. Nothing beats it.

Unfortunately Deerington will be experiencing some power outages as they try to get the lines back up and running. It seems like deer keep eating the downed power lines though! It's making it pretty hard to get things back in working order.

Back to School Sales!

You know what time of year it is! That's right, back to school! I know, I know, I can hear your moans already kids. All schooling will resume on September 5th. Have a good year at school everyone!

For the remainder of the summer you'll be able to get half-off ice cream at the ice cream shop! Get it while it lasts!

School supplies at the pharmacy are up for grabs too.

If you stop by the Book Shop you might be able to enter a raffle for some really cool school supplies! Don't worry parents, you can enter for your kids too. Only 10 winners though! After all, these supplies are TOP OF THE LINE products! Sodder herself made them especially for you all! Isn't that nice?

The sign-up dates for the raffle will be August 30th and September 12th so make sure to come sign up on those days!

Flu Season is Upon Us!

Make sure you stop by the pharmacy for your flu shot! The pharmacist will be giving out shots for the entire month of September. There is a limited supply that will most definitely be gone by the end of September, so make sure to get yours ASAP people!

School season means a wider spread of germs so take it easy out there and make sure to wash your hands! We don't want anyone getting sick now do we?

OOC Information

Welcome to the fall season of the game!

There will be fluctuating power outages throughout Deerington up until September 10th. Here are some things characters may have to deal with until then:
➞ Dropped video/voice calls with the Fluid.
➞ Scrambled text messages with the Fluid.
➞ Videos or pictures taken with the Fluid may distort and show strange shadowy human shapes standing directly behind the person taking them. No matter what a character tries to do, they will not be able to find the source of these shadows.
➞ Lights flickering and going out entirely.
➞ Technology- even not used by Deerington's power, will fluctuate immensely on its reliability.
➞ Toasters, for some reason, are really aggressive. You wanted toast? Congratulations, you get toast: shot right at your face and half the time it's on fire.

The Raffle: Sign your character up for the raffle if you believe they would ICly enter it! Although this raffle promotes school supplies, your character does not have to be a student to enter it or win it! All winners will receive their prizes on September 14th!

You can find out what can be won as well as sign up for the Raffle here.

The Flu Shots: Sign up your character if they plan to get a flu shot sometime in September! A fresh sign up will be made available on September 12th so new players may sign their characters up as well.

The flu shot is a bit intimidating to get. So only put your character on the list before if they would actively get the shot ICly.

The flu shot is not one you can get at the hospital or replicate regardless of what technology or medical skills you may or may not have. You wouldn't even be able to get a vial from the nurse anyway. She will insist there is limited supply and that she's only authorized to give shots, not hand out the medicine itself.

So what happens when you get a flu shot? Well....

You will head to the window in the pharmacy at the back where you can pick up your usual prescriptions. The glass there is still foggy as it always is, only this time there's massive shadows standing behind the glass. A soft, feminine voice will politely ask if you are there for the flu shot. When you say yes, she will tell you to take a seat in the waiting room just to the left. The waiting room has two black cushioned chairs in the middle of it. There is a small fridge next to it. Upon opening it, you will discover a bunch of juice boxes in either Apple Juice or Grape flavor. A little sign on the front of the fridge welcomes you to enjoy one.

If you do, you'll find that it's delicious. And no, for once, there's not a catch. It's just really good Apple Juice. It'll be maybe one of the most satisfying things you'll have ever taken a drink of in your life, and you'll feel extremely rejuvenated for the rest of the day. Damn! What a wake up! Two women come into the room eventually. You don't manage to see the face of the blonde woman, and she busies herself with a metal tray, her back turned to you. You think you can hear some quiet sniffling from her? Was she crying....?

The other woman seems to be oblivious. She looks -- really ordinary, actually? Just an average sort of woman with short, cropped auburn hair and tired brown eyes. She looks to be somewhere in her mid-thirties and she gives you a tired smile. "Hello, dear....It's okay, you don't need to be afraid."

She's very soothing. The needle she takes from the blonde woman's tray is kind of intimidating. It's huge.

"Be an angel now. It will only hurt for a moment. Would you kindly hold out your arm, please. It'll only take a second."

For some reason, the moment the woman says this, no matter how frightened or unwilling you had been of the needle at first, you will begrudgingly let her give you the shot. It goes right into your bicep and takes a whole minute to inject.

It will hurt something awful no matter your pain tolerance. Your whole body will feel like it's been lit on fire, and oh, the nausea! You'll pass out no matter how sturdy of a person you are, but when you wake up, you'll find a pillow has been put under your head, a cold wash cloth on your forehead and one of the juice boxes next to you. Drinking the juice will make you feel better instantly- but if you don't? You'll spend the rest of the day feeling like you're already sick with the flu. Thankfully the next day you'll be fine again!

But yikes, that needle leaves a dark bruise on your arm! It'll be tender for days and leave an interesting bruise that...almost looks like chain links. Weird.

Enjoy, everyone!

You can safely assume that any procedures like this will impact all characters equally regardless of their invulnerability.

Bucky wants to get the shot and immediately take his ass to someone who can do blood work. Will they find anything?

They will not find anything out of the ordinary or suspicious looking!

Okay. I have a series of questions lmfao sorry.

- If someone wanted to steal a vaccine, could they manage to do it?

- If that person did manage to steal the vaccine and cracked it open and licked it to perform real time analysis, would they find anything beyond your standard flu vaccine?

- If that person managed to do all of the above, would they also suffer any kind of side effects from licking it, as if they had received the vaccine?

[personal profile] sodder 2018-09-02 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
No need to apologize!

This is a pretty easy question to answer on all three accounts since it would be impossible to steal a vial, so therefor none of the rest would really be a possible scenario.

Ok one additional question -- if someone tried really, really hard to steal one what would happen? Like impenetrable locked door, they'd find nothing, they'd just drop dead, etc?

Edit: a swarm of authority throw him in jail???

CW: Blood in linked image

[personal profile] sodder 2018-09-02 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
The only way to possibly try and steal the medicine would be from the nurse with her back turned to you. The metal tray appears to be the only place any of the vials are kept.

If you tried to steal one, the nurse would suddenly grab your hand and you wouldn't be able to escape her grasp no matter how hard you tried, even if you have inhuman strength.

The nurse will start to openly cry, turning to look at you. "Why? Why are you doing this?" she'll weep, her voice cracked with emotion.

That's when blood will begin to drip from her head and down her face. At first it's just a straight line of blood, but then more and more falls over her face until it's coating her body.

Soon you will find hot blood rushing down over your face. It isn't yours. But it's blinding if it gets in your eyes, and you'll have trouble seeing for a week. Somewhere distantly, you can hear cracking. If at some point you still tried to get to the vials, you'd find nothing but broken glass and all of the medicine spilling over the edge of the tray. There will be nothing to steal. Only then will the nurse let go of you, and she will collapse to the floor.

The other nurse will have vanished long by now.

LMAO ONE MORE QUESTION (I'm really sorry) --

Canonically he just sticks his fingers in blood and then licks his fingers to do an analysis soooo if he did this to the spilled medicine could he gain any info?
sodder: (Default)

[personal profile] sodder 2018-09-02 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
It would just turn up as if it were regular blood.

The spilled medicine would? (This is my last question, I promise. I just wanted to clarify before I proceed.)

omg I'm a huge liar but THIS IS THE LAST QUESTION I SWEAR. would the collapsed nurse have normal vitals?
sodder: (Default)

[personal profile] sodder 2018-09-02 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
She would be dead. She is dead, technically, even before she begins to speak and move.

If someone were to ask why the blonde woman was crying (either her or the woman with auburn hair), would they get a response? Also, would either answer a question about the flu shot is supposed to guard against, i.e. what the symptoms are of the flu in Deerington?

Another question: The Delivery Dogs are kind of glitchy due to the power outage, is/were there any effects on the townspeople in general due to the power going out, or were they all normal and present the whole time?

They would be told that the blonde woman is having "an emotional day" from the woman with the auburn hair. The blonde woman will not say anything about it. She may just cry harder though if it is acknowledged.

The administering nurse will simply say, "You'll know the flu when it happens."

Nope! The Townsfolk are completely ordinary during this time as are the Betties and the Wastes.
