OOC Discussion: Deeringtome!
What with the events that have been happening lately, wouldn't it be useful to have an IC Guide that characters (new or old) could reference to find out more about Deerington? MAYBE. The following is a summary of discussion from Plurk and Discord on.... Deeringtome!
What is Deeringtome?
What information can go in Deeringtome?
My character hates technology/can't read text/can't write/wouldn't ICly contribute!
Who will work on Deeringtome?
DEERINGTOME WHEN???
I've tried to start off with some discussion headers below, but feel free to make your own if you feel it’d help. This post will be updated intermittently with edits as more details get solidified!
What is Deeringtome?
OOCly: A Googledoc anyone would be able to update.
ICly: A guide that would include a timeline of events in Deerington. There would be a electronic copies available via the Fluids and a hard copy in the form of an actual book. The hard copy would be guarded by two deer, named Clippy and Cloppy. In order to access the hard copy, characters would find Clippy/Cloppy in town and be given the book. The deer would take it back when they were finished.
Due to this setup, the physical copy will only be accessible when the deer are accessible. The electronic copy will only be accessible when the Fluids are working.
- From Lance: Clippy and Cloppy would appear within the first week that newbies are in-game, assuming they're not brought in during times where the deer have disappeared.
What information can go in Deeringtome?
As per the mods, entries in Deeringtome would be "edited with stuff characters would have icly found out and understood". Another recommendation is "not linking to events for the tome just because that way the recordings are more realistic". In other words, IC summaries of things that have been experienced by your character.
So far, players have expressed interest in having the following available in Deeringtome:
- Ami: A list of people they can contact for notes on Deeringtome
- Lance: Beings and monsters, how to fight them
- Lance: Reality bending happenings, i.e. the full moon not changing a whole month.
My character hates technology/can't read text/can't write/wouldn't ICly contribute!
Characters can volunteer their time to transcribe written text to the electronic version, write down accounts from other characters, etc.
- Ax: Suggested an audio copy for blind characters
Who will work on Deeringtome?
Whoever wants to and has time to edit the Googledoc.
ICly, Justine’s notes during the Chapter 2 event will likely spark the discussion, as there are multiple characters who want to get information out and have been doing so on a more limited basis.
DEERINGTOME WHEN???
Probably December, at the earliest, and definitely after the current set of events is over. November will likely be a hectic month for Deerington judging from game chatter, and they'll need to get access to the deer in order to ask the deer to guard the tome.

A: prob december since the deer are still missing and big events are happening and chars IC-ly won't have time to add to it. don't sweat it!
SUGGESTIONS FOR CONTENT
no subject
> contribute to the book by writing new entries (as in pen on paper), and then giving those entries to Clippy or Cloppy;
> contribute to the book by just talking to the deer about what should be going in, and the pages... appear!;
> contribute to the book by talking to someone else who can write/type for you;
> transcribe the hard copy into typed soft copy;
> create audio recordings of their voice;
> we could even have someone do braille!?
OOC-ly, people are welcome to edit the Google Doc as long as their character has experienced whatever is added to the Deeringtome. Entries can be written following the character's writing style, so if ur char typs lik dis u can leav it. speling errors probly also hapen.
For easier compilation of info (and so we can be sure people don't write about the same thing twice), I'll be editing this toplevel with what characters will be contributing.

Vague content ideas (that Blake may or may not be able to fully advise on): multiverse/multiversal visitors (CRAU experiences and the similarities/differences, plus maybe an on-going list of other multiversal locations, when offered), FAQ (IC), quick-start guide (for news who don't have time to read the whole book), on-going census (voluntary?), um... I'll come back if I think of more. o/
