WELCOME TO DEERINGTON!

Hello new players, and hello old players with new faces! We're thrilled to have you in the game and we hope your time here is horrifically wonderful! Please feel free to use this space to introduce yourselves to one another and show off your new characters! Below is some useful information for all new players of the game and how you can expect the game to function! You certainly do not need to read it in order to plunge into the game, but we felt it might prove useful for some people and help you adjust to how the game works quicker!

Please make sure to sign your characters up for this month's team event!

EVENTS AND MEMES

We have an IC Prelude Post made by our NPC, the Dog Keeper, in the DeerFeed community. This functions as an edition of the Deerington Post that all characters are ICly capable of receiving. It will give hints and suggestions to what you can expect from the upcoming event without giving full details, and it also clarifies things like the weather in Deerington or other important IC details for the month, such as severe impacts on characters or the environment. Prelude Posts are made at the first of every month.

We hold one event per month. Many of our events have a lasting impact on characters that will sometimes carry over a month or two after the original posting. We always clarify what parts of these events may carry over, and even as a new player, you may be able to access certain elements from events posted before you were in game! Events can be found in the deerington community and carry over events will be linked in the new event posts for reference.

We provide content warnings for each of our events. Each event typically has a specific horror focus, and some events may be more specific than others. Please make sure to read the content warnings closely. All of our events are specifically designed so players can feel comfortable opting out of any of the events without completely missing out on what's going on. Never feel you have to engage with any part of an event that makes you uncomfortable!

With every event we post a plotting post so that everyone can dig in on what they want to plan for the event. This is posted at the same time as the event.

We have a CR meme that is posted every other month. This encourages people to make long-term plans with each other as well as catch up on what characters might be going through in the game!

Our Test Drive Meme is posted on the 25th of every month. All TDM events can be used in game canon! You can also use direct TDM posts as AC! 10 points for a top-level (new characters only), 3 points per log comment, 1 point per network comment (all players).

Our Activity Check always begins on the first and closes on the fifth. Please remember to comment to this post so you can submit your AC! One of our players has made a helpful tracker for those who may be interested!

USEFUL LINKS AND INFORMATION

While we have provided you with your essential links for joining the game, we have compiled a useful list of links you might be interested in for further immersion of the game!

↪ The Dog Keeper: The Dog Keeper is probably the most interactive and consistent of the NPCs in our game. You can actively contact and communicate with the Dog Keeper, but don't always expect an immediate response! Heck, sometimes he won't respond at all. You can find further information about the Dog Keeper here and more about his dogs here.

↪ The Deerly Beloved App: This was a "dating application" made for the game back in the 2019 February Event. The application is a bit of a hacking-app that will break itself into a character's phone and potentially use fourth wall information to make up a silly Tinder-style profile. Feel free to put this on your journal for your character and have fun with it! It is 100% optional.

↪ The Bestiary: This is a good reference to the beasts your character may be able to interact with inside of the game. Some of them are very situational or location based, but we have provided the monsters that might routinely be seen throughout the game. Feel free to dig right into playing around with them!

↪ Game Calendar: Most of our posts are consistently made the same dates every month, such as our AC and our applications, but we make sure to post when game-events can be expected! Most game events are made between the 11th to the 15th. We try to update the calendar at least one week before the end of each month.

↪ Death Certificates: This will help you keep track of your character's deaths in game as well as any symptoms they might be experiencing. Most new characters won't have to worry about this but heck, what do we know? Maybe you'll want to get to dying sooner than most!

hey guys, it's mel again, keeping up my pattern of apping in characters from ya books with Thom Creed from the novel written by Perry Moore Hero.



thom is a probationary super hero with the power to heal... or at least, he could heal before he wound up in deerington. now, anyone he touches will be suddenly struck with an injury or illness, which is going to very quickly make him very sad.

he's a guy who has a bad habit of getting stuck in his own head and making awkward or terrible first impressions, but he's also that kid that volunteers at his local community center because he lives in a bad neighborhood and wants to help be the positive change he wants to see in his community. thom is a character in flux who's only just starting to learn who he is, which means he'll be real susceptible to mentor types, and he has a tendency to crush on the unattainable.

i'm looking forward to getting him going in the game this month, and as always you can find me at itsmel if you'd like to plot or chat or whatever!

kravitz from the dnd podcast the adventure zone and ren from an old obscure wii game called fragile dreams.

kravitz is essentially a grim reaper/bounty hunter in his canon!! he works for the raven queen, who's like the god of death and p much does whatever she asks. he hates necromancy!! don't commit death crimes in front of him. he acts like a tough, composed guy, but he's really just a big soft nerd who can't function without his queen or death book. he's also dating taako, who will be coming in this round as well.

his permissions have a small section for other characters to fill out, if you'd like him to get spicy w/ ur character over their death count. right now, i have him working at the library as an assistant and am tentatively gonna put him on team falcon for the event.

ren catpiper is a human from a post apocalyptic world where p much everyone's died. she was used in experiments her whole life, so she's extremely wary of people, esp scientists and doctors. she's sick and requires medicine daily to stay awake and, like, live, but she's very cagey about it. coming into deer, she's extremely scared and nervous and really just looking for her companion seto to deal with the things she doesn't want to. she has no idea how the world works and just wants to collect garbage from the trash bc she loves treasures re: garbage. she lives in the alleys and doesn't have a job bc that's how it be. tentatively thinking about team rabbit for her!!

she also has a permissions for her empathy power! please fill this out if you're interested in her feeling ur character's emotions.

Hello everyone! Charley here with a second character: Penny from The Magicians! You know me already as Lance from Voltron, and Penny is... basically his complete opposite. He's aggressive and closed off, damaged and angry, but on the inside he's made of marshmallow fluff and will literally die for you if you manage to become one of the few people he gives a shit about.

But most importantly, he's a powerful psychic. This means that if you wanna thread with him, it would be suuuuper helpful to me if you could check out his psychic permissions form! Most of Penny's psychic abilities work normally in Deerington, and he can't turn off his ability to read thoughts and feelings, so getting an idea of how much he can read on who he's threading with based on IC and OOC factors is super important. Hello, folks. My name's Andie, and I am entirely new around these parts. I've brought with me Wrench (or Mr Wrench, or Wes if you're nasty) from the FX television series Fargo.

For the uninitiated, Wrench is a former hitman who worked and was largely raised up in the Fargo mob syndicate. He'll be entering Deerington mid-episode S03E08: Who Rules the Land of Denial?, which means that he's five years post-encounter that left his former partner dead, and the Fargo mafia as an organization all but totally obliterated. The events of the TDM couldn't have been more opportune, since I literally plucked Wrench up from a point in his canon at which he'd just survived a brutal attack in the woods, chained to a fellow inmate from an ambushed prison transport bus. All that to say, he's currently pretty confused and pretty convinced he's just entered some kind of purgatory-style situation. Violence is a huge part of his life and his livelihood, and his canon holds some space for supernatural events, but he's definitely got a lot of figuring out to do.

Important point of information: Wrench is Deaf. I've created a Frequently Asked Questions page to address some curiosities and concerns I'm anticipating, but please feel free to ask for any clarification you might need.

Guten Tag Deerington!

Robin (player of Hellboy) here, bringing in the second of my demonic themed brightly coloured hero boys, Kurt Wagner, aka. the incredible Nightcrawler!

Kurt is coming in from Marvel 616, around about X-Men Red for those of you who know the canon (which means, yes, he has a hot dad beard goin' on). He's a mutant and an X-Man who specialises in being a B.A.M.F. (wink wonk), which at home means teleportation in a cloud of purple smoke. He's also blue and fuzzy (literally!) and is super into old action adventure movies and pirates.

In Deerington his powers are going to be HELLA NERFED because what's being a mutant without a little angst amirite? He's also going to be moving in with Logan and will be on Team Wolf for the event.

Hello, all! I'm Jhey, already here with one horror teen Shinichi Izumi, and bringing in another horror teen, this one being of the haunted variety.

Hereditary's Peter Graham is not having a great time... He's basically showing up to Deerington looking like a broken zombie following a series of traumatic experiences back home, and he's the unwilling host for an ancient demon king named Paimon (one of Lucifer's most devoted followers) who was progressively transferred into his body by a cult that's been manipulating his family from the shadows for years.

Apart from that... He's a good kid, albeit one with a heaping dose of emotional issues and the disposition of a wounded animal. Peter is very lost, very confused, and is definitely going to need some assistance while he heals up a bit. Having Paimon inside of him also means that he's going to be displaying a variety of symptoms of possession, which is always fun. (Specific warnings about that and his canon found here.)

Hi there, I'm TF! I'm brand new to the game and I'm bringing you Louis from Telltale/Skybound's The Walking Dead Game. Voted 'nicest person to meet in the zombie apocalypse', Louis is a gregarious teenager who deals with his emotional trauma with jokes, games, piano playing and general shenanigans. It's fine, he's fine (he is not fine). He comes in from the last episode of the final season- roughly 8 years into the end of the world where he's been living a lost boys-esque existence in his boarding school for troubled youth - where a lot of terrible things happened to him because, hey, he's a Walking Dead character what do you expect. As he's from one of those pesky multiple-choice canons, his world state can be found here - which is, of course, chock-full of spoilers. He also comes in with 10 months of CRAU from entranceway - so at least he's used to weird stuff happening on a regular basis.

My name is Mey and I am completely new to the game. I'm bringing in Lup from that one ding dang McElroy brothers podcast, The Adventure Zone. The second half of the Tex-Mex Twins, Lup is Taako's identical twin sister. She's a high elf wizard with a love of cooking, high drama, and blowing shit up. She's gregarious and very social, but can come off pretty rude in her effort to be brutally honest. Due to their shitty upbringing, Lup has some Trust Issues™ and takes time to really warm up to people.

She is also a grim reaper/bounty hunter for the Raven Queen, so she's all about bringing justice to those death crimes alongside of her coworker/boss, Kravitz.

Hello! This is Fox (Loki player) bringing in not Bucky Jefferson, the Mad Hatter from Once Upon a Time. :D

Since his story is so different than any Mad Hatter story outside of his canon, the long version is in his app, but the short version is that he is a former thief who uses a magic hat to travel between worlds (Wonderland, Oz, Camelot, the Enchanted Forest, etc.) who keeps getting stuck in time loops and was cursed into having conflicting memories from two lives in his head. It's (part of) what drove him crazy-- and Jefferson is certifiably mad. (Please see his permissions post re: 4th walling and mind reading.)
He also has a daughter named Grace who is his whole world and he misses terribly but feels guilty about abandoning.
That's the shortest/simplest version, but I'm here for questions if you have any.

Jefferson is coming in with a bit of CRAU from Entranceway, but all that means is that the world events and meeting people unwillingly pulled from other worlds/timelines isn't shocking to him. Only all the rest of Deerington will he shocking and horrible.

OH! And he's coming in with a semi-functional magic hat! One that can get him (and, theoretically, others) across Deerington and into the Great Sleep in a jiffy... but it doesn't transport anyone a step closer to home.

A pretty quiet and independent kid, Frisk isn't really looking for anyone to take care of them...so much as they'll be adopting others and making sure the adults stop self-destructing, instead. It's just what they do fam, prepare to be friend-zoned. He's an 11-year-old boy detective, and is basically what happens when you drop Encyclopedia Brown into the middle of a DnD campaign. Angus legitimately used to solve murders and track down serial killers for a living back home, but he's also a tiny nerd who dresses like a grandpa, is easily goofed on, and is gullible enough to fall for the got-your nose trick. He's been CRAU'd from Hadriel, which basically means that he spent two years in another world doing the Jamjar Game Roulette, and will be very annoyed to wake up in Deerington instead of back home. On the bright side, he gets to bring along Peanut, the (mostly tame) varren from Mass Effect that his cast adopted as a family pet back in Hadriel!

okay here i am

you know me (maybe? maybe not?) as Benedict Dearborn @ fumitory, and now you can know me as that character you always liked but probably didn't always actually stan for in public. unless you do, in which case, high five.



here is Lydia Deetz from Beetlejuice, a character i've written for a while but one that takes long naps on me, but here she is, awake and ready for hijinks. Deerington kind of feels like the perfect place for her to wind up in, and so far, having her on the TDM was a blast.

for August i'll be having her start out on Team Bears for the subversive hilarity, but i absolutely want her to interact with characters from any other team as well. for her (and Benny) i might not be dabbling in the animal changing aspect, unless something about the even really strikes my attention. like a glass cannon, please let Lydia slam in and help/rescue your character, then conk out for a sudden nap ten minutes later. (am thinking Team Rabbit in September, stay tuned.)

she's living in Brahms, probably in an apartment with no running electricity considering she has! no job! yet!! how does a teenager make a living wage, hello? she'll figure it out. she'll live by candle light, that's aesthetic. if your character is the artsy sort who might be able to appeal to Lydia with a halfway interesting job that isn't just cashiering, i'd love to play that sort of thing out, or at least have a light thread or discussion OOC on how that might go, for the fun of it. (i'm also debating the thought of her working at the library, possibly, maybe.) she'll be attending high school later this year, freshman, and will likely have a terrible time at it. it's kind of bs, getting thrown into a dream-coma and being expected to pay rent and attend school as if there aren't weird things going on all the time!

for CR, Lydia has dealt with a hefty amount of parental neglect as seen in canon, and what is supposed to be the loss of her mother, considering the fact that she's shown only having a step mother. i'd love for her to develop some positive cr, or ultimately positive with some mentor-like figures, and any cr with peers! she needs people to be weird with, since she's completely capable of coming out of her shell a little and shockingly seems to function like a relatively normal teenager when in a good spot. (i am not interested in any Beetlejuices, so like, i'm way more interested in cross-canon cr than gaining any potential canonmates.)

please get at me if you're interested in revisiting your childhood with Lydia, fumbling through all this weird semi-modern stuff (#ONLY80SKIDS) and also oh right all of the monsters and nightmares and whatnot. that too, i guess. i'm on plurk @ dearlybeheaded and on discord @ crybaby#8643. i'll also likely post to the plotting post for August event.

yes, he is that merlin, albeit from a source with very little care for strict historical accuracy to the early middle ages. shh. he's a guy from about the ~500s so i can't wait for him to discover texting. and chocolate.

he's an overall friendly person, the most cheerful gossip you'll ever meet, and yet also full of snark that's activated by even the slightest inconvenience. he's also, uh, been in hiding as a sorcerer back home, because those are executed on sight in his version of camelot. so if anyone recognizes the name merlin from myths...be prepared for him to vehemently deny this (while simultaneously wishing he had people he could talk to about his magic).

He's been in Hadriel for the last two years and was super jazzed about going home, so will be very, very mad about how he will No Longer Be Doing That. HELLO EVERYONE, this is Bella aka your local Sarissa Theron and Yasha Nydoorin player.
This time I'm rolling in with the little sister of the glorious Wynonna Earp, a ball of sunshine called Waverly.



She's moving in with her sister at Gatlin Drive, and is also going to be working at the local library and will be a teaching assistant at the college. Who knows what other adventures she'll go on, she's a magical unicorn.
