dana polk | the cabin in the woods
Age: 21
Employment in Deerington: Part-time sales consultant at Paintbrush Kingdom; part-time art student at Deerington Community College
Residence in Deerington: 13 E. Main Street with Wanda Maximoff
Day to Day Activities: Dana's trying — and mostly succeeding — at having something resembling a normal life and schedule in a town that feels equal parts quiet and all-too familiar considering her canon. Since her own college degree was somewhat interrupted thanks to the literal end of the world back home, she's decided to enroll at the community college to continue where she left off (do college credits transfer through into the dreamscape? who knows) and has taken a part-time job at the art supply store to supplement her income/help pay for groceries and things like that. When she's not studying at the coffee shop, working or attending classes she's probably exploring the town in the company of any of her new friends or sequestered somewhere with her sketchbook trying to draw something without anyone seeing her.
About This Character: Dana hails from a canon wherein the plot of every formulaic slasher movie has been explained as a ritual sacrifice: a group of young adults, each member identified with a certain classic horror trope, is offered up in tribute to ancient gods in order to appease them and prevent them from rising up and ending the world to remake it themselves. Dana and her friends had the misfortune of being the latest batch plucked up for sacrifice when they left town to spend the weekend at Curt's family cabin, where they inadvertently conjured up a zombie redneck torture family and were basically manipulated into getting picked off one by one. Some of them made it in spite of the odds, navigating down through the underground Facility beneath and discovering the truth for themselves (along with the bevy of ancient and mythological monsters being held to be wielded as instruments of death in potential future rituals), but the world was literally ending as Dana was pulled into Deerington, so it's understandable that she might want to stick around here for a while.
Any Warnings: Dana's a character from a comedy-horror canon that gets pretty meta at times, but there are warnings for gore/monster and horror violence, drugging, manipulation, etc., so if there's anything you want me to steer clear of in her tags, let me know.
Present Life: Honestly, Dana has really had A Time of it in Deerington lately, which makes sense because what better time to throw a lot of hell her way than when she thinks she's actually starting to adjust to this town? After experiencing some unfortunate interactions with surprise quicksand and then spraining her ankle and one of her temporary falcon wings when a tree literally fell on her, she was safe and recovering at home, for the most part, until she had to face a bunch of doppelgangers, her own included, who inflicted some pretty heavy (and gross) damage on the house that she's slowwwly working on repairing with the help of her friends.
Trauma aside, she's still wrestling a lot with what she's doing in this town and what her purpose is, whether or not she should even be trying to finish her college degree or if she should just ditch that plan and do whatever she wants. Of course, her life is about to get a lot more complicated due to this moon sickness issue that will inevitably have her transforming into a werewolf for the first time on the night of the full moon — during the country club costume party, no less.
Future Ideas: Moving forward, I really want Dana's wrestling with her new condition to be a cornerstone of her plotting in this game; I haven't yet decided how long she'll be inflicted, but this is a long-term plan that I'm not looking to cure for the foreseeable future. Looking ahead, she'll definitely be trying to get a handle on her new abilities, including her super-senses/strength/speed, as well as the possessiveness and territorial behavior that starts to get progressively worse the closer she gets to the full moon each month (especially in regards to closer CR or anyone she has an attraction towards (
looking at you, Addy and Sam). Eventually, she's going to have a little more control over her state and be able to shift at will outside of full moon time, but the first few months will be chaotic and painful. I'd also potentially be interested in her even attacking and/or maybe killing another Sleeper while she's too deep in wolf mode to realize what she's doing until she shifts back, so if that's something you'd like to participate in, let me know!CR You Want: All types! Friends, artists or artistically-inclined types (she's got a gig at Paintbrush Kingdom), fellow college students, people for her to have ill-advised crushes on (especially older professorial dudes 'cause uh she might have a slight type there), fellow survivors of supernatural or spoopy events.
CR You Don't Want: Not super negative CR (unless there's an event-motivated reason behind it) but I'm game for her to have the occasional conflict with someone or that person in her life that she just can't seem to say the right things around because she can be kind of a dork.

But for starters, Dana! Alice has also survived spoopy events, some of which were her own faulr :') She'd probably be interested in the werewolf stuff - but they're not close hmm. I'd be down to have Alice attacked if you don't have anyone else lined up for that!

tbh if you want them to have a normal, non-woofy meeting there's always the option of them running into each other at, say, the library or the coffee shop? as one of Deerington's resident students, Dana is basically subsisting on coffee all the time and would probably hit up the library a lot to check out books she might need for class if there's anything she could find there. I feel like it'd also be great to have them get to know each other on a friendly level and then maybe werewolf!Dana could accidentally attack Alice during a separate incident for added guilt and trauma?
