WELCOME TO DEERINGTON! THE TITANIC!

Hello new players, and hello old players with new faces! We're thrilled to have you in the game and we hope your time here is horrifically wonderful! Please feel free to use this space to introduce yourselves to one another and show off your new characters! Below is some useful information for all new players of the game and how you can expect the game to function! You certainly do not need to read it in order to plunge into the game, but we felt it might prove useful for some people and help you adjust to how the game works quicker!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR THIS MONTH

Check out this month's Prelude to catch up on what the setting will be for the month! New characters will receive any items/newspaper from the month's Prelude. Please make sure to read this prelude in particular thoroughly as it includes a lot of information about this month's unique game setting!

All new characters accepted during this application round may opt-in to this temporary setting! You may still proceed with signing your character up for their actual in-game housing, employment, etc and it can be assumed that once they return from the event with everyone else they will find their new homes in Deerington.

For this month characters who are new will wake up on the boat in their assigned rooms. They may still have their items you have applied them in with but anything not fitting to the setting (such as flying air crafts etc) will be waiting for them in regular Deerington.

New characters may also be subject to the varying levels of amnesia/alternate versions of themselves.

Anyone who isn't signed up by the 11th it will be assumed that you have decided to opt out of the event. In that case you may have your character wake up in their new homes as per usual.

If you are waiting for any application responses past the 11th for whatever reason you will still be able to opt in to the event. In this case please just respond to your acceptance notice with what class you wish your character to be put in!

PRELUDES, EVENTS, AND MORE

You can expect a Prelude post made each month to provide details about Deerington's setting for the upcoming event/month. Prelude posts may just be descriptors of the location or may be deliverable posts by NPCs like Sodder or the Dog Keeper. Preludes occasionally will contain gifts or necessary items for a character! All Preludes are accessible to characters accepted during that month's application cycle. For example: the Prelude for December has gifts and settings that are accessible to every character accepted in December.

We hold one event per month. Many of our events have a lasting impact on characters that will sometimes carry over a month or two after the original posting. We always clarify what parts of these events may carry over, and even as a new player, you may be able to access certain elements from events posted before you were in game so always make sure to check out the Preludes for details about any carry-over prompts!

We provide content warnings for each of our events. Each event typically has a specific horror focus, and some events may be more specific than others. Please make sure to read the content warnings closely.

All of our events are specifically designed so players can feel comfortable opting out of any of the events without completely missing out on what's going on. Never feel you have to engage with any part of an event that makes you uncomfortable!

With every event we post a plotting post so that everyone can dig in on what they want to plan for the event. This is posted at the same time as the event.

We have a CR meme that is posted every other month. This encourages people to make long-term plans with each other as well as catch up on what characters might be going through in the game!

Our Test Drive Meme is posted towards the end of each month. All TDM events can be used in game canon! You can also use direct TDM posts as AC! 10 points for a top-level (new characters only), 3 points per log comment, 1 point per network comment (all players).

Our Activity Check always begins on the first and closes on the fifth. All new characters must at least check-in for their first month, but new characters do not technically need to meet AC their first month. Please remember to comment to this post so you can submit your AC! One of our players has made a helpful tracker for those who may be interested!

STARTER INFO

While we have provided you with your essential links for joining the game, we have compiled a useful list of links you might be interested in for further immersion of the game!

↪ Social Media in Deerington: Social Media is a large part of how characters interact in Deerington. They use deerFeed, deerlyBeloved and Staggr. Read up more on how each of these apps function in the game and get your pages set up!

↪ The Dog Keeper: The Dog Keeper is probably the most interactive and consistent of the NPCs in our game. You can actively contact and communicate with the Dog Keeper, but don't always expect an immediate response! Heck, sometimes he won't respond at all. You can find further information about the Dog Keeper here and more about his dogs here.

↪ Game Calendar: Most of our posts are consistently made the same dates every month, such as our AC and our applications, but we make sure to post when game-events can be expected! Most game events are made between the 11th to the 15th. We try to update the calendar at least one week before the end of each month.

↪ Death Certificates: This will help you keep track of your character's deaths in game as well as any symptoms they might be experiencing. Most new characters won't have to worry about this but heck, what do we know? Maybe you'll want to get to dying sooner than most!

Hi again! Sage here bringing in a third Gyllenhaal character, after Quentin Beck and Detective Loki. This one is John Morris from the film version of The Sisters Brothers. To quote promotional material: "You'll not find a more eloquent and educated bounty hunter." He's very much a gentleman tracker and he's far from innocent but he has a kind heart and doesn't approve of brutality.



He'll be coming on board the ship in Second Class.

My name is Gann and I bring two more people to game. I know, I just joined last month with Ben Hanscom from IT, but i couldn't resist two others.

Genji Shimada - Overwatch
Genji is a nice guy who has learned peace from his master, but he has a troubled past where his brother attacked and nearly killed him due to Clan reasons. Genji was picked up by Overwatch, rebuilt and made into a living weapon, basically. He worked for Blackwatch, which it looks like we have all of here now! He's a easy going guy, loves people and traveling and will be a Yoga instructor in game.

Sally Sparrow - Doctor Who + Game
Sally is a young Photographer who loves urband exploration and taking pictures of sad things. She comes from Doctor Who Eps Blink, which was devoted to her and her adventure in saving the Doctor and Martha from the past. It gets all timey whimey in places. She's lived in another place like this before, Siren's Port. There she made friends with some people and was trained to use a katana against the darkness monsters. She still has that with her here, so don't blink when you see her walking around town with it on her back. It's game canon haha.

Anyhow, those are the two new faces I offer. Titanic Wise, they will be 3rd glass [genji] and 2nd class [sally], and though Genji will have AU history it wont be far off from what his character was. Sally will remember things and be mildly freaked out by that.

Hi everyone, I'm Robin, player of your resident Nightcrawler, bringing in this poor schmuck on the right who just wants to finish his breakfast and go kill someone already, Mr. Grady Numbers from FX's Fargo.

He's a contract killer who has been mostly raised in organised crime alongside Wes Wrench (you might know him, tall guy, wears lots of fringe) so he'll fit right in with Deerington's growing underground supply of grumpy murderers. He'll be in Second class on the Titanic (not that he'll stay there very long) and will be AU'd, though his memories will be gradually returning as the month goes on. Hey! I'm Alex. I was here about five months ago for a very short moment with Jesse Pinkman, from AMC's Breaking Bad. A number of major life events happened soon after I joined and I wound up unable to commit to a game. Anyway, I'm back to give it another crack!

Jesse will be entering Deerington from the end of Negro Y Azul (2x07). Jesse has not long witnessed a scabbed up meth addict crush another scabbed up meth addict's head with an ATM, before rescuing said meth addicts' severely neglected and abused kid from their house. He's been holed up in his house ripping bongs in desperate attempt to block this all out of his mind. On the plus side, Walter White convinced Jesse that he's a blowfish.

I'm not going to carry Jesse's TDM threads over into the game, as my indecisive ass decided on a different canon point to the canon points I'd written him from on the TDM. But feel free to shoot me a PM if you want to discuss anything or want to plan anything!

(Lastly, I'm on the east coast of Australia, which is currently experiencing catastrophic bushfires. My internet, both fixed and mobile, has been acting really spotty and sporadic over the past week or so, and I'm pretty sure it's due to several bushfires that are burning out of control near my town. I apologise in advanced for how slow my tags may be due to this.)

Hey everyone! I'm Jelle, and totally new to the game! I play in a variety of other games across Dreamwidth though, so maybe some of you might recognize me from one of those, haha.

I bring with me Ange Ushiromiya from Umineko no Naku Koro ni, aka what if murder mysteries got both really complicated and really depressing: the visual novel. Ange is a 18 year old whose whole life was defined by her family dying when she was only 6, which she still hasn't moved on from. Because of that she's mostly just a really sad teenager, but she's developed a great pokerface over the years since showing sadness and vulnerability is not cool. Now she only speaks in sarcasm and deadpan half of the time. Please help this girl get out of her shell.

Oh, and she's also a witch who denies witches exist. Sometimes. Because.. that's just how Umineko is.

A last content warning: Ange's backstory deals with heavy depression and suicide, so please leave a comment here if you'd rather avoid that! Comments are screened, there's no judgement here.

I'm Josh and I'm fresh meat to the game. I'm bringing in Ruby here from the Rooster Teeth Animation RWBY. She's a well meaning girl who just wants to protect her friends and the world with her big old sniper rifle scythe. She's pretty much always down to clown in a variety of situations. You want to go get smoothies, she's in? You want to fight the forces of darkness? She is also in. Do you have a cool weapon? She definitely wants to see it in action.

She'll be coming aboard the Titanic as a third class crew member/worker. Whether she's ship staff or working for someone in particular is something I'd be a-okay with plotting out. Looking forward to being in the game with you folks.

She's a psychiatrist who works with criminals, consulting for the FBI and sometimes guest lecturing at Quantico. She likes dogs and beer, and also doesn't trust anyone else to break the rules except for herself.

For her canon point, she's coming in from the very end of s2! If you're familiar with it: she's waking up here immediately after Abigail pushes her out the window. If you aren't familiar: she's got a lot of canon stuff to work through. :'D

HELLO ALL, my name is Liv and I am bringing the fairly obscure Cassandra Anderson from the 2012 Dredd movie. She is a Judge aka a fascist super-cop in post-apocalyptic dystopia America and also a mind-reading psychic. She identifies as a mutant (due to literal nuclear radiation in her case) and especially tends to be fun CR with crime, law, criminal justice or military oriented characters, mutants, psychics and other special powers types, and Normal Citizens she can be protective over. Anderson is also a good candidate to be a mentee in a mentor/mentee set up, and frankly just could use some friends who are persistent enough to return her first name to common usage!

I would love to plot with people and try to set up some CR as I get my feet under me!! She will be third class on the Titanic though I have to figure out the details of her AU still. Once we're off the Titanic, she will almost definitely be joining FEAR and getting a studio apartment at David Cliff in Brahms. Hello, it's me, Everett! I play Ellen Ripley in this game, and I've decided to bring another character--Kim Kitsuragi from the video game Disco Elysium.

Kim is a lieutenant detective in the Revachol Citizens Militia, which is a volunteer police force. He's a cop. Despite this, he seems surprisingly uncorrupt and wants to do things cops should do, like protect people??? Wow. Incredible. He's also a huge nerd about motor carriages (cars) and other motor vehicles. Despite his relatively flat and unflappable demeanor, he can be very sarcastic at times and has a very dry sense of humor. He also...has a history with juvenile delinquents and finds it uncomfortable to associate with them.

Hi everyone, I'm Pandora. It's been a long time since I last play Deerington so hello again. I bring you Lan Sizhui from the C-drama, the Untamed. (At the moment, I'm working on getting/making proper icons from the live action series and I'm using the anime/manga ones so please bear with me.) Basically, it's drama set in a fantasy Ancient China with Chinese sorcerers.

Lan Sizhui is 20 years old where I'm taking him from post canon. He's essentially a guqin player, a swordsman, and uses talisman spells for his magic (they backfire and don't work properly). He's an orphan and lost his original parents in a war, but was raised by Wei Wuxian as a child, so he's his father.

I haven't made my mind yet for the Titanic scenerio, but I'm working the details out! But feel free to plot with me and hmu if CR/friendships interests you. Shizui is a good, happy-go-lucky, compassionate, child and loyal friend, and happily assists as he comes from a compassionate clan who is willing to help anyone in need and go to where the chaos is. He might be very confused at first. Just keep in mind, he's very close to Wei Wuxian so any friends with him is a friend of Shizui as they're father and son.

Hello again, Deer! This is Fox, and arriving tonight on the Titanic is my second power hungry chain smoker in the form of Thomas Shelby from Peaky Blinders. (bonus: Cillian Murphy's gorgeous eyes.) He is coming from relatively early in his canon-- mid season 2, right before the Epsom Derby in 1922.

His app is on his journal, but in a very brief overview: Tommy is a WWI veteran from Birmingham who, upon returning from the war, became the leader of a prominent street gang called the Peaky Blinders. (The gang was thus known because they hid razor blades in the peaks of the flatcaps they wore as part of their signature attire.) Before being yanked into Deerington, Tommy had been in the midst of procuring legal businesses for the Shelby family to operate (usually by absorbing or violently overthrowing other gangs), but at this point in time, most of their business is illegal. Smuggling contraband, fixing horse races, occasional murders... all common activities of a successful mob. Thomas is smart, observant, and known for his brutality. (Secretly, he suffers from pretty severe depression and PTSD.)

[ Note: The Peaky Blinders were a real street gang from the 1890s until the 1930s, but the Shelby family and the events of the show are fiction. ]

Tommy's content warnings are mostly violence but can include some nasty language frequently used during his time period, mostly the common slur for those with Romani heritage (of which he is himself). Hello! I'm Indy and brand-new to this game, and I'm very excited to be here! I'm bringing 1 (one) tiny Texan trashlawyer from Angel. His canon point is at the end of his fight with Angel in Season 5, so he'll still have his magic tattoos because he's just that extra. If you're unfamiliar with the canon, he's a little like a Loki who started out as Team Rocket (and failed just as much) only to become like Zuko...ish.

I was only vaguely familiar with Buffycanon back in the day when it first came out, and just recently finished all of Angel so I am still consumed with many feels and salt. 1990 was only ten years ago I don't know what you're talking about it's not that old.

Hello! Another newbie here joining the ranks!

I'm LP and I'm bringing you Wesley Wyndam-Pryce from the Buffyverse/Angel: the Series. What can I say, 'tis the season of 20+ year old canons apparently.

Wesley is a bookish paranormal investigator who tries very hard. No, really, he tries very hard but most of the time, the gold star is copper at best. That doesn't stop him from being extremely pretentious about it and act like he has everything under control even though he is pretty much a bag of failures. He worked as a Watcher at first (failed horribly, got fired), then as a rogue demon hunter (failed horribly, almost starved from the lack of payment) and is now part of a paranormal investigation agency in L.A. to help the helpless, protect the innocent and trying to fend off the looming apocalypse on the side.

All the tropes that might pop into your mind, that's him. He's an expert on the occult and old languages but he's also incredibly clumsy, a huge dork, socially awkward and repressed and ridden with insecurities deep enough that he can't even make himself look good in his own daydreams. Not that he'd admit it.

If you're familiar with the show, he's post-Season 2, meaning he has just started growing as a person with his found family and actually becoming capable at the job.

I've had an absolute blast on the TDM and can't wait to play with all of you shiny people! I'm still busy setting everything up and working on his AU but I'll try to get a plotting post up tonight and maybe even toss him into the event log.

Hello! I'm Selina and I'm new to the game. I'm bringing in Alec Lightwood from the Shadowhunter books. He looks like the TV version, but he's younger (18 years old), is less repressed, has fewer family issues, and doesn't want to run the New York Institute. He's basically from the end of City of Heavenly Fire so he's had a whole lot of crazy in his life.

For everyone who doesn't know either obscure canon... Alec is Nephilim, which in his world is part human/part angel. They were created through Angelic intervention to protect the world from demons. He's had a kind of horrible childhood, but doesn't always realize that he was neglected according to 'normal' standards. Basically in his world, when you're about 13 you're sent on missions to hunt demons. Most of his visible skin is covered in black runes that help improve his angelic abilities. He's over 6 ft tall, covered in 'tattoos', and wears a lot of black. People avoid him on subways or think he's a ninja.

He's an introvert who is learning to interact with the world. He's snarky and sometimes too blunt for polite society, but he's trying to learn tact. He's ridiculously in love with his boyfriend Magnus Bane. Once he adopts you into his family/friend group, he's the protective big brother type.

it's jabbers here with my second character! i already play buzz lightyear from the obscure anime series toy story. amara is a siren from the borderlands series, one of only six that can exist in the universe at any given time. she's from the end of the game where the vault hunters punched a god in the face, some sad stuff happened, and she was about to go loot a fallen friend's room before waking up here! she's a hero to the people of her home planet, partali and now saved the universe! also her muscles (and ego) are very big. she likes to talk herself up, but she has the skills to back it all up.

here's her character trailer if you want a basic rundown of her personality/powers. she changes a little over the course of the game, but the basics are still there! she's also very murder happy, being from the borderlands canon, so, uh... sorry to all the people here that have no kill rules? she won't judge, but she sure won't abide by 'em! she's kind of insufferable sometimes!

I'm Zorn and I'm fresh meat. I'm bringing with me Guzma from Pokémon SPECIAL manga! He's a violent and wild man with a crippling inferiority complex that developed from a past of child abuse and being ostracized by his society for being different. It's so bad, it's to the point that he's willing to throw away anything for those of whom acknowledge him, but only if they are someone he also respects, he's got a weird Social Darwinism thing going on. Which with how chaotic and morally grey he is, this exacerbates a lot of his negative qualities, and makes it easy for people to take advantage of him if they know how to play him just right...

As such, he's just as likely to harm other people as he is to harm himself... SO, please jog on over to his permission/content warning page, to see if he's your cup of tea, he's definitely got a lot of darker themes going on.

His canon point (for those familiar) is from Chapter 19, right as he's being taken by Nihilego, so you know, just moments before arriving...
