February 2020 Introduction Post

WELCOME TO DEERINGTON!

Hello new players, and hello old players with new faces! We're thrilled to have you in the game and we hope your time here is horrifically wonderful! Please feel free to use this space to introduce yourselves to one another and show off your new characters! Below is some useful information for all new players of the game and how you can expect the game to function! You certainly do not need to read it in order to plunge into the game, but we felt it might prove useful for some people and help you adjust to how the game works quicker!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR THIS MONTH

Check out this month's Prelude to catch up on what the setting will be for the month! New characters will receive any items/newspaper from the month's Prelude.

Deerington's setting for February is Rapture. Characters can opt out of this setting by not entering the lighthouses as seen at the end of the January event. New characters can wake up in Rapture or go through the lighthouse experience to access Rapture. Alternatively if you'd like to opt out they can just wake up in Deerington as they normally would.

Characters newly accepted into this round may still play with the amnesia/AU aspect from January. All effects of Titanic-based amnesia and AUing will fade away entirely by March 1st.

Please know that character abilities will be heavily warped/nerfed for Rapture's setting if you choose to have your character be in Rapture.

Once a character is in Rapture, they cannot leave/return to Deerington until the end of the month.

Like in January, any character deaths in Rapture will result in ghosts appearing in your preferred location back in Deerington.

Requirement for all new characters: Please make sure to comment with your character to the AC Page by the 20th. We will assume you've withdrawn your acceptance if we don't see your character on the AC page by then. This would be seen as idling out and you would have to wait one application cycle before reapplying.

PRELUDES, EVENTS, AND MORE

You can expect a Prelude post made each month to provide details about Deerington's setting for the upcoming event/month. Prelude posts may just be descriptors of the location or may be deliverable posts by NPCs like Sodder or the Dog Keeper. Preludes occasionally will contain gifts or necessary items for a character! All Preludes are accessible to characters accepted during that month's application cycle. For example: the Prelude for December has gifts and settings that are accessible to every character accepted in December.

We hold one event per month. Many of our events have a lasting impact on characters that will sometimes carry over a month or two after the original posting. We always clarify what parts of these events may carry over, and even as a new player, you may be able to access certain elements from events posted before you were in game so always make sure to check out the Preludes for details about any carry-over prompts!

We provide content warnings for each of our events. Each event typically has a specific horror focus, and some events may be more specific than others. Please make sure to read the content warnings closely.

All of our events are specifically designed so players can feel comfortable opting out of any of the events without completely missing out on what's going on. Never feel you have to engage with any part of an event that makes you uncomfortable!

With every event we post a plotting post so that everyone can dig in on what they want to plan for the event. This is posted at the same time as the event.

We have a CR meme that is posted every other month. This encourages people to make long-term plans with each other as well as catch up on what characters might be going through in the game!

Our Test Drive Meme is posted towards the end of each month. All TDM events can be used in game canon! You can also use direct TDM posts as AC! 10 points for a top-level (new characters only), 3 points per log comment, 1 point per network comment (all players).

Our Activity Check always begins on the first and closes on the fifth. All new characters must at least check-in for their first month, but new characters do not technically need to meet AC their first month. Please remember to comment to this post so you can submit your AC! One of our players has made a helpful tracker for those who may be interested!

STARTER INFO

While we have provided you with your essential links for joining the game, we have compiled a useful list of links you might be interested in for further immersion of the game!

↪ Social Media in Deerington: Social Media is a large part of how characters interact in Deerington. They use deerFeed, deerlyBeloved and Staggr. Read up more on how each of these apps function in the game and get your pages set up!

↪ The Dog Keeper: The Dog Keeper is probably the most interactive and consistent of the NPCs in our game. You can actively contact and communicate with the Dog Keeper, but don't always expect an immediate response! Heck, sometimes he won't respond at all. You can find further information about the Dog Keeper here and more about his dogs here.

↪ Game Calendar: Most of our posts are consistently made the same dates every month, such as our AC and our applications, but we make sure to post when game-events can be expected! Most game events are made between the 11th to the 15th. We try to update the calendar at least one week before the end of each month.

↪ Death Certificates: This will help you keep track of your character's deaths in game as well as any symptoms they might be experiencing. Most new characters won't have to worry about this but heck, what do we know? Maybe you'll want to get to dying sooner than most!

Hi, my name is Oli and I'm new hereeee. I play this old man here whose icons are 99% comprised of him looking confused, as that's the only expression he wears in his movie apparently. Although lots of people may be more familiar with him under the name Logan or Wolverine, as he settles into Deerington (or first, Rapture,) he's going to be introducing himself as James - a small departure from some TDM threads but I think it'll help him settle into vain attempts at anonymity before it all falls apart. C'est la vie.

I really enjoyed the TDM so if you wanna keep those threads as canon, please let me know! I'll assume not unless told otherwise, and we can be flexible with the details as it fits. hey, i'm gero! completely new to deerington. i'm bringing with me stiles stilinski, intrepid boy detective, from the mtv show teen wolf.

for those of you who aren't familiar with him, he's the lone human in a sea of supernatural friends, and he's got too much energy/curiosity/intelligence for his own good. i'm taking him from early on in 3b, where he's possessed by a trickster spirit that specializes in pain and psychological torture, and for those of you who are canon familiar, the mods have given me permission to play out his possession the way it plays out in canon, so. ideally i'll be slowburning some pretty crazy drama that i'd love to get more people involved with.

for the most part, though, even if you're not into drama, stiles is a fun, happy teenage boy who is going to live next to a pizza place and probably get himself arrested for breaking into non-residential buildings in search of clues more than once, so expect some goofiness. i'm looking forward to playing him here!

Shirley is a funeral director who, due to some traumatic experiences, fears death and is obsessed with fixing EVERYTHING. She's a super responsible sister who wants to look out for her siblings, but everything she does tends to be a bit on the controlling side.

She can be pretty judgemental, fails to listen to people, and can be quick to anger. I apologize for her in advance, as she can be quite mean when she's angry. She's not completely terrible, though. She can be amicable, and she always tries to find ways to help people.

Heya, I'm RC and back to Deerington after a short stint when it first got off the ground with a completely new face! The really confused/unsettled one up there. Shadow Moon is from the tv series of American Gods which Deerington already has one character from and possibly getting another--both of which Shadow will have conflicted feels at seeing as seen in the TDM but I digress!

The short version is that Shadow is arriving in Deerington post season 2 finale which is pretty much going from one insane existence to another. I had him arrive in the TDM in Rapture which I plan on keeping as game canon along with all the threads he was in (as long as that's good with the other players).

Without giving away major spoilers for the series for those who haven't watched but plan to, Shadow is usually of few words unless provoked whether in good or bad ways. He tends to be introspective and a fairly good listener/observer. He might have a formidable appearance given his size (6'3" and 235lbs) and quiet nature when among strangers but is well intentioned. Overall, he is more of a puppy than bulldog yet if pushed past his limit, his bite comes without any warning. He might be an ex-con but his life of crime was due more to circumstance than proclivity.

There is a lot of info in his journal for anyone who wants more (to include some NSFW pics embedded in links--ye have been warned!) and a link to a YouTube clip of the show for his voice with one more on his profile (both surrounding season 2 but with no real spoilers in them).

i'm bringing in arya stark from a song of ice and fire, the book version of game of thrones! she's a tiny medieval assassin-in-training with a sword, a crushing need for vengeance, and a big fat mouth. i'm taking her from the end of the fifth book, where she's in the middle of being brainwashed by a cult of death-worshipping assassins, and will therefore get very uncomfortable at Deeply Personal questions like "hey what's your name?" feel free to adopt her, bicker with her, get into exploration shenanigans/hijinks with her, or teach her about cool modern amenities like running water and germ theory!

arya also has some possession-related abilities that are being warped so that if she tries to possess your character, then your character can also possess her body. fun stuff!!

She is staunchly anti-mind control... unless it's to prevent further mind control. You know what, even then? Feels bad, man. For those unfamiliar, Clarisse is a daughter of the war god Ares, the former head counselor for the Ares cabin, and sick to death of dealing with Percy Jackson's bullshit, basically. At her current canon point she's given up her role as head counselor to live a more normal life and attend the University of Arizona, but she's probably missing the demigod lifestyle more than she'd like to let on, so Deerington will actually be kind of fun for her. He is a beautiful, chaotic, violent mess of a man with impressive sword-fighting skills and a strong talent for trickery. He can also create Fierce Corpses (Zombies), but that won't be an active power for him in Deerington.

When he arrives, he won't look like himself. Instead he will resemble the man he is madly in love with (because that's what you do when said love dies, right?). Oh he also has what is left of said love's soul in a pouch. Again, totally normal.

Hi there! My name's Kitten and I'm new to Deerington with Kovu, from the second Lion King movie! I've taken him from the beginning of the movie, and am looking forward to developing him and possibly canon-updating him at some point!

To briefly summarize this lil guy (and assuming people have seen the Lion King and possibly Lion King II: Simba's Pride), he's from a banished pride of lions loyal to the villain of the first movie, Scar, and was hand chosen to succeed Scar before he died. As a result, everyone in his pride knows him as the "Chosen One" and his mother is in the midst of putting him through some hella training in order to take out Simba and reclaim the Pride Lands.

...At this point though he's just a sassy little furball who would probably be happier hanging out with Simba's daughter and play-fighting.

Hey! I'm Rick and I'm totally new to Deerington. I'll be playing Horikawa Kunihiro from Katsugeki/Touken Ranbu, an anime based on the browser and mobile game Touken Ranbu. Both the game and anime are about a Saniwa sage who summons swords in human form in an attempt to protect history from the Time Retrograde Army, a faction set on disrupting the flow of time itself. Horikawa is one of those swords.

Aaaaaaand he's coming from a point in canon where he's having a crisis over whether or not protecting history is actually the right thing to do, though. Just teenager things.

Hey hey, this is LP! Sooo I'm having a total blast with y'all and Wesley <33 which is why I decided to bring in another guy – here's Luka Kovač from ER aka that one medical drama your mom may have watched a couple of decades ago I watch modern shows too I swear.

Luka is an ER doc from Croatia who, after losing his family in the war there, comes to America to have a mix of whacky and heartbreaking adventures at Chicago's County Hospital. He's really good at being tall, brooding, and putting people back together. He's really bad at idioms, maintaining a stable relationship, communicating and admitting when he's wrong. Unlike Wesley, he's from an Average Joe universe so he'll have a lot of adapting to do but he's also used to working under extreme conditions and overall a pretty resilient guy. If anyone needs a pesky bug removed, you can give him a holler 8D

hi everyone, i'm carlee. i was here for a little bit a couple years back, i test drove dana scully on the tdm but ultimately didn't app (we'll see what the future holds for that) and i've come back with the same character with a very new set of circumstances, namely max guevara of dark angel with CRAU from the game meadowlark. why is this significant? because in addition to her particular set of skills, she's now got a new ability in the form of psychometry, which allows her the ability to see memories of the items she touches (think theo from the haunting of hill house if you need context). this is due to an implant in her chest that will occasionally start glowing blue, namely when her ability is activated (she currently doesn't have a whole lot of control on when this happens); she is also home to a neural implant that is dormant due to not being around others from new amsterdam.

for those unfamiliar with the traditional, max is kind of a brat, but generally friendly when people aren't trying to kill her or experiment on her and at the very least, willing to help out when someone needs it. i'm considering her tdm threads game canon based on permission from both players she's threaded with, so she's already had a taste of what rapture has to offer and she's not a fan. also at home, she's a bike messenger who moonlights as a cat burglar and helps her ex-boyfriend save the world when she's not trying to track down escapees of the covert government facility she escaped from and then burned down.

Hello!! I'm Drizz aka lightdrizzel and I'm brand new to this game but I'm also here to add to the growing RWBY cast.

This is Pyrrha Nikos!! She's a good, kindhearted, badass huntress in training who does not deserve any bad things happening in her life. So, naturally, she'll be coming in after her death in Volume 3, and she'll be waking up in Rapture with a fresh start and incredible confusion.
