WELCOME TO DEERINGTON!

Hello new players, and hello old players with new faces! We're thrilled to have you in the game and we hope your time here is horrifically wonderful! Please feel free to use this space to introduce yourselves to one another and show off your new characters! Below is some useful information for all new players of the game and how you can expect the game to function! You certainly do not need to read it in order to plunge into the game, but we felt it might prove useful for some people and help you adjust to how the game works quicker!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR THIS MONTH

Check out this month's Prelude to catch up on what the setting will be for the month! New characters will receive any items/newspaper from the month's Prelude.

New characters may experience the soul mate strings / sins from February's event.

Requirement for all new characters: Please make sure to comment with your character to the AC Page by the 20th. We will assume you've withdrawn your acceptance if we don't see your character on the AC page by then. This would be seen as idling out and you would have to wait one application cycle before reapplying.

PRELUDES, EVENTS, AND MORE

You can expect a Prelude post made each month to provide details about Deerington's setting for the upcoming event/month. Prelude posts may just be descriptors of the location or may be deliverable posts by NPCs like Sodder or the Dog Keeper. Preludes occasionally will contain gifts or necessary items for a character! All Preludes are accessible to characters accepted during that month's application cycle. For example: the Prelude for December has gifts and settings that are accessible to every character accepted in December.

We hold one event per month. Many of our events have a lasting impact on characters that will sometimes carry over a month or two after the original posting. We always clarify what parts of these events may carry over, and even as a new player, you may be able to access certain elements from events posted before you were in game so always make sure to check out the Preludes for details about any carry-over prompts!

We provide content warnings for each of our events. Each event typically has a specific horror focus, and some events may be more specific than others. Please make sure to read the content warnings closely.

All of our events are specifically designed so players can feel comfortable opting out of any of the events without completely missing out on what's going on. Never feel you have to engage with any part of an event that makes you uncomfortable!

With every event we post a plotting post so that everyone can dig in on what they want to plan for the event. This is posted at the same time as the event.

We have a CR meme that is posted every other month. This encourages people to make long-term plans with each other as well as catch up on what characters might be going through in the game!

Our Test Drive Meme is posted towards the end of each month. All TDM events can be used in game canon! You can also use direct TDM posts as AC! 10 points for a top-level (new characters only), 3 points per log comment, 1 point per network comment (all players).

Our Activity Check always begins on the first and closes on the fifth. All new characters must at least check-in for their first month, but new characters do not technically need to meet AC their first month. Please remember to comment to this post so you can submit your AC! One of our players has made a helpful tracker for those who may be interested!

STARTER INFO

While we have provided you with your essential links for joining the game, we have compiled a useful list of links you might be interested in for further immersion of the game!

↪ Social Media in Deerington: Social Media is a large part of how characters interact in Deerington. They use deerFeed, deerlyBeloved and Staggr. Read up more on how each of these apps function in the game and get your pages set up!

↪ The Dog Keeper: The Dog Keeper is probably the most interactive and consistent of the NPCs in our game. You can actively contact and communicate with the Dog Keeper, but don't always expect an immediate response! Heck, sometimes he won't respond at all. You can find further information about the Dog Keeper here and more about his dogs here.

↪ Game Calendar: Most of our posts are consistently made the same dates every month, such as our AC and our applications, but we make sure to post when game-events can be expected! Most game events are made between the 11th to the 15th. We try to update the calendar at least one week before the end of each month.

↪ Death Certificates: This will help you keep track of your character's deaths in game as well as any symptoms they might be experiencing. Most new characters won't have to worry about this but heck, what do we know? Maybe you'll want to get to dying sooner than most!

Introducing Neopolitan from Rooster Teeth's RWBY series. She is a mute and former associate of the self-styled criminal kingpin Roman Torchwick. After the end of Volume and Roman's unfortunate (or fortunate, if you were Ruby) encounter with a Griffon, she has teamed up with the sweetest person in the world, Cinder Fall to bring love and happiness to the world.

Pffft, just kidding. She's all smiles, but she's a cold-blooded killer and extremely good at what she does. She's also got a very serious grudge against those she holds responsible for the death of Roman Torchwick. So, I'm sure the reunion with her fellow castmates will go swimmingly.

Hello everyone!

My name is Ax, and I'm a returning player. I was here for a good while and dropped about a year ago and have now returned with Rei Hino from the Sailor Moon manga. Rei was here for a while and she'll be returning with all of her game memories, so previous CR please hit her up! She will be looking for you all.

For those of you who aren't familiar, Rei has an alternate identity called Sailor Mars, a fire-wielding magical girl. She's a sweet, caring, but kind of aloof and often distant young woman with some serious abandonment issues thanks to a bad home life. She lives in a shrine in Tokyo, and comes complete with a pair of magical crows. She's one of the responsible types, as well. For those that are? She's coming in from the very, very end of the manga, shortly after Usagi/Sailor Moon's wedding and coronation, so she's 22 years old and has had 6 years of relative peace. She has spiritual abilities and some other powers that can affect people around her, so please give my Permissions a look.

Hello! My name is Alex and I am bringing with me one Tina Goldstein from Harry Potter! I was here with Tina briefly before last year, and I am looking forward to throwing her into the madness once again.

Tina will be coming into Deerington fresh; she won't remember her first time here, or any CR from that brief stint. If your character interacted with Tina before, please feel free to have them recognize her if you like.

Tina is an Auror (aka magical detective) coming in from the end of Crimes of Grindelwald, so there will likely be spoilers for both movies in her tags and threads. She's an awkward duck who means well but very often winds up making a fair amount of messes with her good intentions.

While she is coming from a particularly difficult point in her personal life, I'm really looking forward to having her come out of her shell more in Deerington! Tina is a very loyal and determined friend to have, and if your friend is lacking the Mom/Older Sister/Sibling Friend in their life, well. She's glad to fill that particular role. Someone has to, after all.

As a note, one of the ways in which Tina's magic is warped is that occasionally the spells she tries to cast end up causing the more extreme effects of the cheering charm, so if you ever want your character particularly hysterically happy, just let me know. :D

this is josh foley. marvel's given this kid an absolute rollarcoaster of a character arc. he was one of the few mutants who kept their powers after m-day, and unfortunately had a very useful power which meant he got thrown into a lot of situations that were very bad for him. he's kind of been MIA from the x-men proper for like five years because that kind of shattered him mentally. and he's coming from 2019's uncanny run, where he's a member of emma frost's new hellfire club and watched a friend melt in front of him. neat!

he comes across as a big, dumb, friendly jock himbo type who would love to throw a football around, take you out on a date, and also heal you of every single owie you've ever gotten. and he is very much that! but he is also a mess. he is cripplingly unstable thanks to everything he's gone through in canon, and when under pressure he often snaps and lashes out. his idea of dealing with his problems mostly involves just never addressing them or running away before someone can make him. and as he has power over life and death (which has been warped in ways he is going to hate) that makes him pretty dang dangerous if he loses his shit. but hey! this is a nice normal town, everything will be fine right?

anyway! billy is just your average super-powered teenager from new york who may or may not be known as a "young avenger" (his first costume was modeled after thor's, as was his previous codename - it was all pretty on the nose). you know, nbd. as far as is powers go, he's pretty op - reality warping, lightning projection and manipulation, flying and teleporting, clairvoyance, spellcasting, etc., but a lot of that has been toned down or warped!

in general, billy's a good kid who's just trying to do his best to do what's right. he's friendly, and sometimes sarcastic, and he's a hhhuge fanboy when it comes to a lot of things pop culture, but especially when it comes to other heroes and villains from his own universe. when he's not running around kicking butt (which... is rarely the case, marvel please let him breathe for five minutes), billy's just your typical teenager, nerding it up and making terrible puns, and maybe making the occasional terrible-but-well-intended-decision or two. oh, and he may or may not be the sort-of-maybe-son of scarlet witch. haha. jk...unless?

I bring you Arid, from the awesome indie game series known as The Fall. Arid is an AI aboard an armored combat suit, designed to assist and protect her pilot Colonel Josephs. Think JARVIS from Iron Man, complete with kickass combat subroutines and a loving devotion for her pilot—if JARVIS were also tactless, vindictive, and severely traumatized. Arid is trying very hard to be a better, kinder AI than she was before, but this will likely be complicated by her kneejerk animosity towards humans, the abusive patterns taught to her by her own human, and the PTSD virus implanted in her processor. Seriously, she just realized other people's feelings matter like, an hour ago, so be patient with her OTL

this time i'm bringing laris from star trek picard. she's a sweet alien bean who just wants to live a quiet life with her idiots. truthfully, she's a former intelligence operative who turned her back on her people to pursue something personal and has been hiding out on earth for fifteen years. she has a wicked motherly side, is secretive and quiet by nature but also can't entirely stop herself being curious.

she's going to be keeping her head down for a while, primitive earth places (oof) which also means for a little while she's going to be covering her ears with her hair, look as human as possible for the time. that won't end up lasting long but!! nothing unusual to see here for the moment, just a sweet, irish bean.

Hello! This is Fox (player of Technical Boy and Tommy Shelby) bringing my third character to the game. This beautiful lady is an actual, literal monster and main antagonist from Stephen King's Doctor Sleep, Rose the Hat. *(Her Deerington issued I.D. will say Rose O'Hara.) She is most easily identifiable by the battered silk top hat she always wears, but the EarthCruiser she drives/lives in is no less inconspicuous. To most people, she'll come across as a little airy, a little flirty, and plenty odd. One can tell just by looking at her that she isn't the type to be stuck in one place.

Unsurprising for a King villain, Rose is a pseudo-immortal, quasi-demonic child murderer, so please look at her permissions post and contact me at fantomfox with any questions/comments/concerns. Her tribe of "shine vampires' is called the True Knot, and she will miss them greatly while she's here. (This loneliness will likely result in violence.) She's a powerful psychic and 'feeds' on the psychic powers ('steam' or 'shining') of others. Children are her favorite. This feeding doesn't have to kill the victim, but she nearly always chooses to. She doesn't need to take steam often, but she will as often as she can get the opportunity. Approach with caution.

I'm bringing in Michael, from the TV show The Good Place! Michael is a demon who used to torture humans in Hell but, after A Series of Events, is currently in charge of Heaven after having campaigned for a more humane afterlife system. He will be very excited to live a sort-of "normal humanish" life! He has a shitty apartment and a job! Isn't that neat??? He's very friendly and interested in people, pretty difficult to shake after having lived for actual billions of years, and basically just a little weird. Content warnings are probably just a possibility of discussing torture and mindwipes. He has no particular investment in hiding his true nature at this point, so he won't be pretending to be human or anything.

He's gonna be working as a bartender in Hair of the Dog, so I'm hoping that will be a nice jumping-off point! I'm open to changing that though, HEY NIN NIN I DIDN'T KNOW LUCIFER OWNED A BAR AND WE SHOULD TALK ABOUT THAT. In the early days he'll likely just be looking to make connections with some new people, because friends are important. He's from the Star Wars universe and I am perfectly okay since it is a prominent canon to have other characters recognize him as the bass Sith Lord from the first prequel movie.

He will be angry and furious most of the time, but since he's coming from a rather vulnerable point in canon (everyone he's ever cared about is dead hahahasob), he's not quite as abrasive as he can be sometimes. Also a total badass with a lightsaber and will be taking an interest in anyone with psychic powers. So excited to be in the game with him!

Hey Deerington, TF here bringing another emotionally damaged loser into the game! This is Varian from Tangled - specifically the TV series set after the events of the movie. He's a teenage alchemist who tries to solve problems with science despite the fact his world continues to do inexplicable magical bullshit on a near-constant basis. Varian is a sassy, awkward little weirdo who desperately seeks approval from his loved ones and has a tendency to make really poor life decisions. He's also a former villain, trying to make up for that time he committed high treason by trying to murder the entire royal family. Seriously, he makes really poor life decisons. He's going to keep the Reformed Disney Villain thing on the down-low at first because Deerington gives him the clean slate he's always wanted. Until I find a fun way to ruin that for him, of course.

Varian comes from mid season 3, just at the end of a weird fever dream involving a creepy ghost girl who he's immediately going to assume is Sodder (she categorically is not Sodder). He also comes with his pet raccoon Ruddiger in tow, because the trash child needs his trash panda. Varian comes with a whole heap of Tangled spoilers attached to him, so if you want to avoid them, please let me know! As always, you can find me hanging out at teeff and I'm down with any TDM threads being game canon.

Right now she's a vigilante space cowboy trying her best to keep order and peace in her little bit of the galaxy, armed with a couple of phaser rifles, a whole lot of trauma and nothing to lose. She also happens to be a former Borg drone and Starfleet nerd who had to relearn her humanity after eighteen years as a walking thumb drive. She likes spaceships, being alone (but not too alone) and things making sense, so she's going to have a great time in Deerington!

he committed suicide at the end of his canon, so he isn't in the best shape mentally. he's generally polite enough to other people, but he won't engage too much unless there is frequent interactions. i'm more than open to anything, just nothing too deep with underage characters outside of him being friendly. he's not too keen on brats as shown with laura, and he isn't afraid to tell them things that will hurt them emotionally.

Hello! My name is Kat and I'm currently bringing you a Nick Jonas face by the name of Rowan Damisch. He comes from a book series called Arc of a Scythe that you should all really check out. Basically, the cloud has become an all-encompassing, loving and not at all shady (I mean it) AI called the Thunderhead and has solved all of humanity's problems, including death. To keep the population balanced, there are persons called Scythes that "glean" persons and work outside of the influence of the Thunderhead. They're supposed to keep things professional and be the best of the best of humanity.

Needless to say, they aren't. Rowan apprenticed to become a scythe but, through a series of events, became more of a vigilante, killing scythes that don't uphold the proper moral code. And then there was some mind fuckery. (The scythe he killed came back to life as a severed head, used his assistant to kill Rowan's best friend and then attached his head to the best friend's body. You know, the usual.)

Rowan comes from having died again and thinks he's just come back to life the normal way. His nanites will be dampened to make healing more normal than his usual quick pace and of course he can die. He'll probably get himself a basic job somewhere and begin lowkey scoping out bad people to kill, before he realizes how the city works. But still, killing is good.

Okay, well, hello everyone! I'm K and I'm bringing Gee to the game. He's paranoid, he's something of an artist, and he's new in town!

Gee is actually fairly friendly, though he is occasionally scattered and sometimes very weird/creepy/eerie - take your pick, it depends on his mood. He can be very forthcoming or very reticent. He's good for random interactions just about anywhere, so we look forward to meeting y'all!

He is a changeling, which is kind of half-Fae half-human, with access to magic that he will tentatively be practicing with in Deerington.

hi and welcome! I'm Carly and I'm the player behind this gal Wynonna Earp from the Syfy/Space Channel show of the same name, as well as Dana Polk from The Cabin in the Woods and Bo Peep from Toy Story 4.

Dana's definitely an artsy type so I feel like she and Gee would be good for randomly bumping into each other? she's back at the community college taking various art classes every now and then and she works at the art supply store part-time!

My name is Katie and I am new around these parts. I am bringing one really.....bitchy tbh sorceress, Yennefer of Vengerberg from Netflix's The Witcher. She does not always make the best first impressions -- just ask poor Jaskier. Though she may pretend to be nicer if she feels it fits her agenda. Not that she has an agenda yet, but give her enough time, she'll come up with one.

She's very powerful when it comes to magic -- which means now her magic won't work a lot of the time. She's going to love that. She also uses telepathic magic to try to read people's minds and learn things but that also will be fritzing out sometimes, either in her hearing weird ominous whisperings or radio static. Fun.

Deep down though, she's kind of soft. All she's ever wanted, really, is to feel important. To be wanted. Loved. Adored

anyway! gwen's coming in from a... let's say rough point in her canon. she was killed by a "red blobbily monster", resurrected by said thing, and now lives with it in her body so that's gonna be so much fun for her. she's a sarcastic but secretly tender teenager who has no idea wtf is happening to her right now and i look forward to all the cr she's gonna get :>
