WELCOME TO DEERINGTON!

Hello new players, and hello old players with new faces! We're thrilled to have you in the game and we hope your time here is horrifically wonderful! Please feel free to use this space to introduce yourselves to one another and show off your new characters! Below is some useful information for all new players of the game and how you can expect the game to function! You certainly do not need to read it in order to plunge into the game, but we felt it might prove useful for some people and help you adjust to how the game works quicker!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR THIS MONTH

Check out this month's Prelude to catch up on what the setting will be for the month! New characters will receive any items/newspaper from the month's Prelude.

The rains from April will last for three months as will the overgrowth in plant life. There will be multiple prompts throughout the next three months that will have to do directly with the overgrowth.

New players accepted during April and May will be able to sign their characters up for Pack Dynamics. You may change your character's pack role at any time. Full opt-out options are available for those uninterested with the general premise. The Pack Dynamics are to provide an interesting social background for the next couple of months for people to play with.

Requirement for all new characters: Please make sure to comment with your character to the AC Page by the 20th. We will assume you've withdrawn your acceptance if we don't see your character on the AC page by then. This would be seen as idling out and you would have to wait one application cycle before reapplying.

Content Warnings: Please make sure to check out our player-maintained content warnings excel sheet. We strongly encourage all players to fill this out.

PRELUDES, EVENTS, AND MORE

You can expect a Prelude post made each month to provide details about Deerington's setting for the upcoming event/month. Prelude posts may just be descriptors of the location or may be deliverable posts by NPCs like Sodder or the Dog Keeper. Preludes occasionally will contain gifts or necessary items for a character! All Preludes are accessible to characters accepted during that month's application cycle. For example: the Prelude for December has gifts and settings that are accessible to every character accepted in December.

We hold one event per month. Many of our events have a lasting impact on characters that will sometimes carry over a month or two after the original posting. We always clarify what parts of these events may carry over, and even as a new player, you may be able to access certain elements from events posted before you were in game so always make sure to check out the Preludes for details about any carry-over prompts!

We provide content warnings for each of our events. Each event typically has a specific horror focus, and some events may be more specific than others. Please make sure to read the content warnings closely.

All of our events are specifically designed so players can feel comfortable opting out of any of the events without completely missing out on what's going on. Never feel you have to engage with any part of an event that makes you uncomfortable!

With every event we post a plotting post so that everyone can dig in on what they want to plan for the event. This is posted at the same time as the event.

We have a CR meme that is posted every other month. This encourages people to make long-term plans with each other as well as catch up on what characters might be going through in the game!

Our Test Drive Meme is posted towards the end of each month. All TDM events can be used in game canon! You can also use direct TDM posts as AC! 10 points for a top-level (new characters only), 3 points per log comment, 1 point per network comment (all players).

Our Activity Check always begins on the first and closes on the fifth. All new characters must at least check-in for their first month, but new characters do not technically need to meet AC their first month. Please remember to comment to this post so you can submit your AC! One of our players has made a helpful tracker for those who may be interested!

STARTER INFO

While we have provided you with your essential links for joining the game, we have compiled a useful list of links you might be interested in for further immersion of the game!

↪ Social Media in Deerington: Social Media is a large part of how characters interact in Deerington. They use deerFeed, deerlyBeloved and Staggr. Read up more on how each of these apps function in the game and get your pages set up!

↪ The Dog Keeper: The Dog Keeper is probably the most interactive and consistent of the NPCs in our game. You can actively contact and communicate with the Dog Keeper, but don't always expect an immediate response! Heck, sometimes he won't respond at all. You can find further information about the Dog Keeper here and more about his dogs here.

↪ Game Calendar: Most of our posts are consistently made the same dates every month, such as our AC and our applications, but we make sure to post when game-events can be expected! Most game events are made between the 11th to the 15th. We try to update the calendar at least one week before the end of each month.

↪ Death Certificates: This will help you keep track of your character's deaths in game as well as any symptoms they might be experiencing. Most new characters won't have to worry about this but heck, what do we know? Maybe you'll want to get to dying sooner than most!

I play Usagi Tsukino from the manga Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon. She's the title character, Sailor Moon. A little about her, she's one of the biggest extroverts ever and loves to befriend everyone, like literally everyone if she can help it. Don't want to be her friend, too bad, you now have a blonde cheering you on. Oh, she's also Eternal Sailor Moon (which is a bit of a mouthful) the pretty suited soldier who will punish you in the name of the moon while looking like an angel with a lot of ribbons while doing it. So... there's that.

Hello! This is Missy bringing Jean Grey and I'm brand new here. o/

Jean's coming from X2: X-Men United right at the end where she sacrifices herself for the team at Alkali Lake. She's a telepath and telekinetic and has within her a separate personality known as Phoenix (info about her here) who is very much present within her mind and not at all nice to deal with. I have a warp around her telepathy where the more she uses it, the more the barriers Xavier put around Phoenix crack and break down so there's definitely a chance for the unpredictable personality to make herself known in the future unless Jean gets some control on that. c:

I'm excited to see other X-Men here since it's been so long so I've played against any of them! I'm completely fine with keeping any TDM threads as game canon if you'd like or if you'd prefer to start with something fresh we can absolutely do that as well. Also with Jean being a telepath, the usual rules apply where she won't ever just into your mind without ooc permission so feel free to let me know if you ever want her to/don't want her to or if she would be able to or not.

Hello everyone, Nin here, player of Lucifer Morningstar (morningstud) bringing in character #2, Higgs Monaghan, from Death Stranding. And Higgs is, well. He's a lot, and has an... interesting choice of fashion, as you may be able to tell from his icons.

Higgs is obnoxious, arrogant, and ridiculously overpowered, which means that he's going to have a great old time here.

Higgs does come with a couple of things to keep in mind, though, so here are his permissions. Use them at your discretion; I won't mind.

The first is that Higgs is a walking spoiler— no, seriously, if you want to go into the game blind, do not read his app, it spoils the hell out of a good 85% of the plot. If you're canonblind and are at all interested in the game, I recommend choosing to opt-out of spoilers at least until you've played/watched it on youtube. I won't be spoiling the game in his toplevels anytime soon, but it won't take much to get him to talk about the plot.

The second is technically a spoiler, but it's important, and that is that Higgs' backstory deals heavily with themes of child abuse. He'd have to be incredibly close with someone to consider discussing it, and even then he'd be reluctant to bring it up. But it's a serious subject regardless, so there's a pre-emptive op-out for you if you'd like, and also an option to just not have me tag you with this character.

It's all good, I won't be offended if you choose to go that route.

Hey everyone! I'm Rona, this is my grand return to DWRP after five years away (holy shit I'm so excited), and I am bringing you Jonathan Sims from The Magnus Archives. It's a supernatural horror podcast, so Jon should fit right in. Be aware he's a walking spoiler for everything up til the S4 finale. (I have a screened opt-out post here.)

Things to note: Jon gives off some spooky eldritch vibes, and he feeds on traumatic memories of the supernatural. If your character has some of those (from canon or from Deerington), and you're down for him to sense it— or even pry it out of them via fun truth compulsions— please comment on his permissions page! He wants all your stories. The more brutal the better.

That said, Jon has come to the game with his wholesome canon boyfriend, so he will be doing his best not to... accidentally terrorize the population. Beyond all the eldritch bullshit, he is a way-too-curious, way-too-stubborn, kind-of-stuffy British paranormal researcher who really does mean well. I am delightedly ready for ANY AND ALL CR.

Hullo, hullo! Terri, here with Martin Blackwood from The Magnus Archives. TMA is a supernatural horror podcast and Deerington is likely going to be an almost pleasant break from what canon has in store. Martin is from the S4 season finale and is extremely spoilerific as a result. Please let me know if you'd prefer not to have him tag you or to avoid spoilers as much as possible, if need be. Martin's a gentle giant of a man who's a bit fussy, fairly reserved, very lonely, and coming off a months-long dive into intense isolation, supernatural depression, and mind-games with eldritch creatures in human form. He's had real conversations with maybe... three people in the last three months, so, it's going to be some work for him remembering how to People without wanting to just vanish into nothing. He's very determined, though, especially when it comes to his canon boyfriend, Jonathan Sims, who's also here. He's going to be doing his best to get out there so that he can take care of Jon and maybe collect some Statements (stories about supernatural encounters) for his man. To... keep said man from going eldritch monster and attacking random people.

I'm excited to force him into being social again beyond just Jon. He can be pretty closed about himself, but he'll listen to other people easily enough. He's a very good listener. For those with magical senses, there might be some lingering sense of supernatural loneliness and fog/mist about him.

Hello everyone! I'm Ros, I'm brand new here, annnnd I've been eyeing the game on and off since, like... the first TDM... So I finally tossed an app in! Anyway, I'm bringing in Jeff Calhoun, who's an OC from a modern (sub)urban fantasy universe where magic exists out in the open and is kind of boring and mundane. Jeff's basically a cool (really!!!!) single dad who lives in the suburbs with his teenage daughter, teaches high school, and tries to live a life that's as uneventful as humanly possible.

He's also a magical bard who accidentally summoned a demon at a rock concert this one time, and it totally screwed up his life. So he's a lot less of a stranger to horror shenanigans than he'll initially pretend to be. He's also annoyingly, relentlessly friendly, like a 6' tall golden retriever who just wants to make everyone happy. So far, I've got him set up in the cul de sac in Dunwich Hollow (because he can never escape suburban hell) and teaching at the high school here. I'm bringing you Ariadne, the multiverse's friendliest and most optimistic demonoid. She's what would happen if Kaylee (Firefly), Trance Gemini (Andromeda), and Kes (Star Trek: Voyager) had a baby. Which is to say, she's so sweet, you may get diabetes. But she can also cut you into thirds with her fingernails, not that she'll be advertising that fact. She comes from a fantasy-medieval universe, akin to Legend of Zelda or Witcher or Dragon Age, so the term "demon" in this case does not indicate any relation to biblical Hell. Rather, it means she's not always Human-shaped. Her app is here and her permissions are here if you need any of that stuff.

Also, yes, I use Natalie Portman as a PB. Feel free to mistake her for Jane Foster, Queen Amidala, or anyone else you like. You can even mistake her for someone in your headcanon, I don't care! It'll be fun.

mrs sheringham is honestly the sweetest person you could meet, though that's not simply because she used to be an angel. literally. mrs s. was an angel who gave up eternity after falling in love with a human, wanting to be with him and know what that was. things didn't end up going to plan but she doesn't regret a second of it.

she has the biggest heart, still working for god despite being mortal now, mrs s. advices and guides the angels on earth, helping humans in need where she can. and oh boy are there some humans in need here. she's going to be trying to help in whatever way she can and will definitely tuck people under her wing, adult or child.

an important thing to note is that even though she no longer is an angel (and thus is powerless!) there's still a sense about her, so angels, demons or those with such a supernatural sense might be able to read something about her, not that she was an angel but that she's at least blessed, like her aura is brighter than a human's or something feels more divine.

He's also got a magical dragon tattoo and a fancy bow and arrow, though those arrows are finite and pretty high-tech, so maybe finding a way to construct more is a priority at the moment...certainly not making amends with his apparently not-dead brother, Genji.

Hello there! This is the Will Graham player, entering with an original character this time. Don't worry, he's...even more of an edgelord than Will is, but at least he has a way better sense of humor. Think closer to Fargo (TV)'s black comedy than anything too grimdark.

Jasper is a Louisianan simple dude in his mid-thirties just trying to get by. He likes noisy cafes and diners and the occasional bar, he's pretty friendly, he misspells texts even with spellcheck, he can't cook, and he, uh...sometimes kills people. It's fine, though, really. They're all bad people, he pinky-promises??

Jasper does come with a lot of content warnings (mostly for child abuse, religious extremism/cults, and murder) but I didn't app him in with the intent to be serious all the time with him, so...if you like that sort of thing, feel free to hang out with this new weirdo.
