Character Name: Fern
Age: 17
Employment in Deerington: FEAR combat and weapons specialist.
Residence in Deerington: A treehouse near the Parks and Rec building and Lake Tomie.
Day to Day Activities: Fern tends to loiter around places, sometimes with his guitar or fishing at the lake or pond. He also has a tendency to hang out in trees or other shrubbery. He has daily training sessions with Maul and gun practice with K.
About This Character:Fern is the result of Adventure Time's main character, Finn, getting turned into a sentient sword and then merging with another sentient cursed sword, the Grass Sword. Physically, that means he's now made out of grass and has various plant powers. Mentally, that means he has two separate minds making up his Fern self: that of a human teenager who grew up in a post-apocalyptic Earth (and used to be a cosmic entity of change), and an eldritch horror octopus-spider who likes said human teenager but influences his darker thoughts and feelings. Fern's self esteem is essentially non-existent so he's often extremely self-loathing, and he generally thinks violence solves everything. On top of all that he has severe problems with his identity, having lost his previous one as Finn, and frequently questions his personhood. He has a lot of pent-up frustration and emotional instability, and on really bad days this can cause him to have destructive meltdowns.
Any Warnings: Being made out of grass Fern comes with buckets of body horror! On top of that he has low self-esteem, and has a lot of issues with his identity. He also has very violent tendencies and his past involves violence against children, death and parental neglect/abuse. Grass Demon comes with cephalopod and spider imagery.
Present Life: Fern suffered his second death back in April at the hands of one of the Leitner books. He is holding onto a couple (one that essentially makes you invisible, one that writes the secrets of whoever reads it in its pages) for research purposes, as he and Paimon are interested in their whole eldritch deal. Regarding Paimon, Fern has dedicated himself to him as his knight and is willing to do anything to protect him. More recently Fern had a run-in with Ultimate Archivist Jon Sims, who had a look inside his head and made contact with the Grass Demon. This sent Fern into total meltdown and he wound up stabbing both Jon and Glitch. In June the Grass Demon met a few folks in the Great Sleep, so the word is slowly starting to get out about him. This month sucks pretty hard since all the herbicide in the air is making him sick (being a plant sucks guys). Also he's in love with Varian oops.
Future Ideas: He'll be attending school in the fall! That will be exciting. After getting the story clue I'm planning on having him get more involved in the main plot, and he and Varian are going to do some research on multiversal portals (which I'm sure will go super well). After the current event he'll likely hole up somewhere and hide from people as his self-loathing will be at an all time high and his emotional stability won't be so hot. I'd love for there to be fallout from his trial, since it involves attacking so many Sleepers!
I have a personalized horror in mind for Fern that I will do one day that involves him splitting back into the Grass Sword and (broken) Finn Sword, so that a bunch of people can get cursed with a frantic Grass Sword controlling their arm and trying to put itself back together.
Lastly, one big plan I am one day hoping for is for someone or a group of people to take it upon themselves to help Fern out and kill the Grass Demon. This will have the unfortunate side effect of killing Fern since he can't exist without it, and would lead to his third death (which means loss of some canon and in game memories for at least a month). Pain for all!
CR You Want: Fern is basically an eldritch monstrosity, so characters who would bond over that or would be interested research-wise will get a lot out of him. He's also pretty easy to get negative cr with if you are looking for that. Since he's getting into music more musically-minded people would be fun, as well as kids his own age (especially if they think he's a weirdo). He also gets very attached to parental figures since he lost his when he was four-ish.
