WELCOME TO DEERINGTON!

Hello new players, and hello old players with new faces! We're thrilled to have you in the game and we hope your time here is horrifically wonderful! Please feel free to use this space to introduce yourselves to one another and show off your new characters! Below is some useful information for all new players of the game and how you can expect the game to function! You certainly do not need to read it in order to plunge into the game, but we felt it might prove useful for some people and help you adjust to how the game works quicker!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR THIS MONTH

Check out this month's Prelude to catch up on what the setting will be for the month! New characters will receive any items/newspaper from the month's Prelude.

Please read our Story So Far post that will be available to all characters ICly. This is a good point of reference for anyone who wants to dig into the meaty core of the game's story.

Requirement for all new characters: Please make sure to comment with your character to the AC Page by the 20th. We will assume you've withdrawn your acceptance if we don't see your character on the AC page by then. This would be seen as idling out and you would have to wait for one application cycle before reapplying.

Content Warnings: Please make sure to check out our player-maintained content warnings excel sheet. We strongly encourage all players to fill this out.

PRELUDES, EVENTS, AND MORE

20-25th of Each Month:

You can expect a Prelude post made each month to provide details about Deerington's setting for the upcoming event/month. Prelude posts may just be descriptors of the location or may be deliverable posts by NPCs like Sodder or the Dog Keeper. Preludes occasionally will contain gifts or necessary items for a character! All Preludes are accessible to characters accepted during that month's application cycle. For example: the Prelude for December has gifts and settings that are accessible to every character accepted in December.

11th of Each Month:

A plotting post containing the event prompts will be posted so that players can read the event and plan for it ahead of time. There should be time for new players to get in on the plotting since all events officially go live on the 15th.

15th of Each Month:

We hold one event per month. Many of our events have a lasting impact on characters that will sometimes carry over a month or two after the original posting. We always clarify what parts of these events may carry over, and even as a new player, you may be able to access certain elements from events posted before you were in-game so always make sure to check out the Preludes for details about any carry-over prompts!

We provide content warnings for each of our events. Each event typically has a specific horror focus, and some events may be more specific than others. Please make sure to read the content warnings closely.

All of our events are specifically designed so players can feel comfortable opting out of any of the events without completely missing out on what's going on. Never feel you have to engage with any part of an event that makes you uncomfortable!

Mini-Events:

Some game-meta mini-events will be posted along with every other event. Clues to how to access these mini-events will be given in prior months. These mini-events are for players who want to get heavily involved in the story elements of the game. They are entirely optional. All mini-events are logged here and can be accessed at any time during your time in Deerington. All mini-events were created so that players can take their time exploring the story elements on their own schedule.

Every other 15th of the Month:

We have a CR meme that is posted every other month. This encourages people to make long-term plans with each other as well as catch up on what characters might be going through in the game!

End of Month:

Our Test Drive Meme is posted towards the end of each month. All TDM events can be used in game canon! You can also use direct TDM posts as AC! 10 points for a top-level (new characters only), 3 points per log comment, 1 point per network comment (all players).

STARTER INFO

While we have provided you with your essential links for joining the game, we have compiled a useful list of links you might be interested in for further immersion of the game!

↪Story So Far provides a general timeline of events that have occurred in-game for the first two years, just about. You do not need to read all of this to get into the game, but it may help with characters who are investigative.

↪ Social Media in Deerington: Social Media is a large part of how characters interact in Deerington. They use deerFeed, deerlyBeloved and Staggr. Read up more on how each of these apps function in the game and get your pages set up!

↪ Death Certificates: This will help you keep track of your character's deaths in-game as well as any symptoms they might be experiencing. Most new characters won't have to worry about this but heck, what do we know? Maybe you'll want to get to dying sooner than most!

Hello! This is Lauren, current player of Mick Rory and past player of others.

I'm bringing in Carol Danvers straight from about 15 minutes into Avengers Endgame. She's from early in the five year gap, so she's met many Avengers, but not all of them, and she hasn't seen what a fucking mess they're going to make yet.

For anyone who doesn't know her, she's a former USAF pilot and a damn good one who went through some physical changes and has some amnesia/brainwashing fun times in space, but she got her memories back and reunited with her wonderful found fam on Earth before zooming back out into space to help some alien refugees find a nice home. She's a bit of a chaotic hot mess, but totally a loveable one probably.



And yes, she did bring a certain cat-shaped bag of holding if anyone would like to lose any items temporarily or permanently to the eldritch horror that is her cat's insides.

Hey hey, I guess I just can't quit this game. This is Kelly, the former player of Tony Stark, Buffy Summers, and (briefly) Phil Coulson. I'm bringing in with me a tough gal who also happens to be a psychic with a myriad of different abilities: Zed Martin from the DCTV series Constantine. She's coming in from a brief stint in the hospital following a lil health scare (something pressing on her temporal lobe, but she's fine).

Like I said, she's a tough gal who comes from a messed up family who want to use her to give birth to the next savior or something convoluted like that. They also want to use her for her powers, and they've even sent people after her to take her in by force. Which they succeeded in doing once. Yeah. She's a fun-loving person and she really cares about helping people, so.... Don't mind her if she starts trying to befriend everyone and anyone (as long as you're not a total creep or an evil angel or something. there's exceptions to every rule, however) and take people under her proverbial wing.



Oh, and she's got fire and sass for days. Just saying.

Hello all! This is Nights/LT and I already have one current resident at Deerington (David Singh) and here is number two, Dorian Pavus from Dragon Age: Inquisition. His timeline falls somewhere between the end of Dragon Age: Inquisition and before the start of Tresspasser. I tend to play him unromanced and unattached so as not to impose any unintended CR on possible future characters.

Dorian is a mage and a Necromancer, with a focus on pyromancy, but he has other magical abilities as well. Though I can imagine him being less inclined to use them as opposed to the Necromancer skills because those are more likely to backfire on him lol. He's not going to handle that too well, it's going to be a blow to his ego, he's quite proud of his talents.

Dorian also comes with his own set of baggage, his homeland is Tevinter, a mageocracy where families impose impossible standards on their children, so Dorian has grown up with issues revolving around his inability to be his authentic self. Because of that, he is a high-functioning alcoholic so bring on the booze/wine. He also comes from a country where slavery is the norm, but since his time with the Inquisition, Dorian is one of the few people in his homeland who pays people to take care of his household. So yay.

He's still kind of an elitist and he has a rather high opinion of himself, a superficial opinion, he doesn't know what to do with compliments that are directed at his virtues and not his good looks and magical skill. Another reason why this place is going to stymie him, he defines himself by those two things.

It should also be noted that Dorian is allergic to certain kinds of grass/weeds and he has a problem with heights so he'll be great to tag along with outdoors.

Hi!! K here, bringing in Soubi Agatsuma from the Loveless manga. He is coming from the end of the most recent volume.

Soubi is one half of a pair that duels in spell battles. He's also an artist and a Libra. He comes with a lot of baggage and the manga series deals with some pretty heavy issues so please check out his Info/Opt-Out page. That being said, for most general interactions, it isn't hard to avoid the heavy.

Soubi isn't great at people-ing and his social skills are hit-or-miss. He's getting better. He probably needs practice and some patient or good-humored new acquaintances. If he's being a jerk, you can probably get Ritsuka to yell at him.

He likes cooking but doesn't have any particular preferences himself. He has three piercings: one in each ear and one mystery piercing. Hates butterflies.

He will be living in David Cliffe Apartments and possibly teaching art somewhere and/or attending the college.

Hello, hello deer friends! I'm Pepper and I'm a Deerington newbie. I'll be bringing in Dr. Owen Harper from that one Dr. Who spinoff series Torchwood. The super-short synopsis of this guy is that he is 1.) an actual doctor and 2.) a self-described 'twat' who is far too mordant for reasons

His canon can get really dark so I just put up a Content Warning | Opt-Out Post if you need to step away.

Additionally, if there's any feedback you want to give in terms of my writing and/or characterization then I've got a HMD Post. I haven't done DWRP in several years so I'm bound to goof up so don't hesitate to drop a line on where I can improve.

Hey there! I'm Lilum, brand new to Deerington and bringing in Yvienne Magnolia from the manhwa Ciel: The Last Autumn Story.

Some general info/permissions is here and a lot more details in her app, but basically Yvienne is a witch from a vaguely 19th century-inspired fantasy world full of demons, magic, and the kind of social norms you could expect from that time period. She herself is clever, vivacious, more than a little self-centered, and has exactly zero will to live. But she works hard to keep that last bit under wraps.

Fun fact about her world's magic system: all magic is performed in a 'field' that the user opens, and all witches require a partner called a 'familiar' to help them close it when they're done, otherwise the field uses up their energy and they die. Yvienne's missing her familiar here, obviously, but her powers have been warped to allow any magic user to help her close her field once they've bonded some.

Hi, I'm Jhey and welcome to the game! :) I'm canonblind, but this sounds exactly like my cup of tea as well, and I think my horror kid here in game would be really interesting to throw at Yvienne sometime! Peter's very unfortunately and unwillingly possessed by a demon king from the Goetia, so there's a ton of ties to witchcraft / magic. The demon inside him is currently very confused and lost, and forever curious to learn about anyone else with supernatural themes or connections to magic / different types of magic. Witches are also very important to him, aaand one of his abilities is to grant Familiars to people. The differences between what "familiar" is to him and what it seems to be in Yvienne's world would definitely catch his interest, too. Basically he'd be HELLA curious by her.

All that about the demon aside... Peter is another Depressed Teenager with like very little will to live (highfive)! But he's horrendously soft under all the gloom and would definitely try to help a new young person out if the chance popped up.

He's a small town sheriff from a place which is arguably just as weird as Deerington so he'll fit right in. He's on the quiet, stoic side but once he warms up to you, you have him for life and he will be very loyal and probably way too trusting. He's pretty accepting of weird occurrences and eccentric characters so come at him. He'll probably slowmunch on a donut while listening to your supernatural life story.

Hi! This is Dante, player of Margot, bringing in a second character. This is Yuki Takeya from School-Live! A series in which a group of girls try to survive a zombie apocalypse by living at their school.

Yuki is a 17-year-old girl, who's so heavily traumatized by the zombie outbreak that she hallucinates that everything is fine and everyone is alive and happy and going to school like normal. She's very childish and kind of a slacker, but very friendly and just wants to be there for her friends. I'm taking her from a canon point where she realizes her delusions are just delusions and that she does actually live in a zombie-overrun world.

She's a hyperactive magical girl princess from another dimension. And she's precious, once you get past the fact that she's got more energy than most people can handle.

She's fourteen, has a magical wand that enables her to do crazy spells like narwhal blasts and loves things like unicorns and rainbows. She'll miss her friend Marco like crazy but will probably be okay since she has lots of other kids her age in game here.
