PART ONE PROMPTS
COWBOY LIKE ME
Start Date: April 11th
End Date: Horses can be kept til End Game (or transfer over to Chp2)
Location: Everywhere
This town ain't big enough for the two of us. Two being all the Sleepers and whatever nefarious creatures lurk in the dream realm. The Delivery Dogs are doing their best to get supplies to people throughout the town, and some of those supplies wind up being Western clothing. Cowboy hats, long leather jackets, boots, revolvers and guns - whatever a cowboy might wear, the dogs are bringing to you directly. But it isn't just an aesthetic thing. With the current situation of the town, you'll find that these clothes are helpful in the temporary desert atmosphere.
Plus, all of the cowboy clothes that are brought to characters are fireproof and water-resistant. They are sturdy clothes. Good to have when the going gets going - or whatever. Putting on the clothes will also give one a calm state of mind and a willingness to venture into the great unknown. Or in this case, a town that's determined to kill every Sleeper in it.
It isn't just cowboy clothes either. Horses of various breeds start to clop through the streets. These aren't too dissimilar to the horses that the hobbits once brought. These horses are just as intelligent, just as sturdy and personable. But you do not choose the horse; the horse chooses you. They will find their ideal master and allow them to ride upon them. These horses are otherwise impossible to tame or capture. If one doesn't want anything to do with you? There's no changing its mind.
So hopefully you can get yourself a horse. These horses know how to outsmart the Thenns and Tremors both. They also know how to navigate difficult terrain. They prefer to be ridden bareback but won't resist saddles if you have one to put on them.
The one downside to the cowboy mania is the fact that it does make one feel territorial. You might sink into the role of the cowboy a bit too much and start feeling compelled to own the street you live on, to defend "your" territory, to feel hostile towards those you don't feel are a part of your gang - whatever that gang might be. Many Sleepers might even start going by an old Western name to distinguish their reputation among others such as Calamity Jane, Billy the Kid, Kitty Canuit, Texas Jack Omohundro, etc. You very well might wind up in a street brawl with fellow Sleepers because of this new attitude. Good luck. May the best person win.
Or, you know, remember that this is super not the time for internal fighting.
INFORMATION:
1. People can keep cowboy clothes but they will alter personalities slightly in order to contribute to the Western themes. If these clothes are brought over to Chp2 then they will still have that same impact there.
2. The weapons are ordinary but will still be effective against the threats this month. People may receive any weapons that are traditionally used by cowboys.
DISTRESSED
Start Date: April 11th
End Date:End of May.
Location: Everywhere
You're a damsel and you're in distress. You've got this.
Or maybe you don't, actually. There's one of two ways you got yourself into this situation.
The first is...Okay, so you don't know the first. You went to bed or walked down the wrong road and suddenly it was lights out. Maybe someone knocked you over the head or maybe they took you while you slept. When you wake up, you're in some random abandoned building or in some dangerous situation like tied on a log floating in the middle of the water reserve. No matter where you are, you're tied up with a sturdy rope.
The second way is you fell for the rope. An inconspicuous plain-looking rope. You decided hey, you know, sometimes ropes are really useful. With everything going to shit and back it might not be a terrible idea to have a handy dandy rope on hand!
Except this rope isn't your ordinary rope. It comes to life the moment you touch it and starts to wind itself around you. Within a matter of seconds, you're completely hog-tied and it's one of those ropes where the more you struggle, the tighter it gets. The rope seems to be able to expand and grow so it can wrap around you as many times as it needs to.
It doesn't matter what weapons you have on you or what powers you have. It's impossible to get out of this rope...Unless someone else unties it for you. This means you'll have to be found first and hopefully, the rope hasn't gagged you yet or else shouting for help might be trickier. Maybe someone will just notice you've gone missing?
Anyone can untie the rope but it will be a long, painful process. If you struggle or stress out while they're untying you, the rope might tighten back up. And while you're being untied, the rope will give whoever's saving you some serious rope burn. This can range from a normal, painful rope burn or it can rip off entire chunks of skin. It's better to cut the rope, but to do that, you both must be incredibly calm, or else a blade might slip right off the rope and you don't want a knife sliding off anywhere too close to either of you.
Might want to be quick though. There's a lot that wants to eat Sleepers this month and you're both sitting ducks trying to get this thing off. And for those in a really bad situation, you might be floating in a sinking boat or trapped in a car that's on fire.
INFORMATION:
1. The Delivery Dogs are especially good at finding people tied up and might be able to chew the ropes off.
2. People can die from the ropes. Ropes can strangle people, cut off circulation, or even go inside their bodies.
3. It is generally assumed the Thenns are knocking Sleepers out and tying them up in order to eat them. You can use this prompt to lead into the second if interested, but you don't have to.
4. Multiple Characters can be tied together. You can have your character wake up tied to someone else or 2+ characters can find a rope at the same time. They will still need the assistance of someone who isn't tied up to get free.
5. The rope will only leave severe rope burns on tied up victims the more they resist against the ropes. 1st-3rd degree burns can be experienced because of the ropes for either savior or victim.
6. Once the rope has been cut/untied from the individual, the rope will burn itself up. The ropes cannot be salvaged or kept.
PART TWO PROMPTS
CAN YOU FEEL THE TREMOR
Start Date: April 11th
End Date: End of May
Location: Everywhere
You feel them before you see them. You can feel the tremors as they slide and shift beneath your feet. Then you finally see one burst out of the earth. They're a hell of a lot quicker than any creature that big has any right being and they're violent. They are meat-eaters through and through and will snatch up any living creature near them to pull back down into the earth and devour.
But they are also completely blind. These creatures depend solely on the vibrations from movement to track their prey from under the earth. They have sensitive skin that can feel vibrations from up to a mile away. When they are out of the ground, they can use their long tongues to feel around to make sure they don't waste their energy on a car (though they have definitely been known to accidentally crush a car or two). They have powerful jaws that crush bones with ease and thick, sturdy skin that a normal gun or knife will prove useless against.
They are flesh and blood creatures, however, and a well-constructed bomb, an onslaught of thick bullets, or superpowers can kill these creatures. They don't have a single vulnerable part - not even their mouths as they regularly breakthrough metal and rock to build their tunnels underground. You can drop down into the tunnels they make and do your best to track them and that might not be the worst way to hunt them. They're more deadly out of the earth, but underground, if you sneak up on one they won't be able to immediately turn around without crushing through the earth.
Then again you also run the risk of running into one head-on, and if you do that, they will be at the advantage since their sensitivity is intense underground and they will have no problem catching you and killing you. These creatures reproduce asexually but age slowly and therefore their numbers aren't too significant in the town. They are inactive at night and only hunt during the day. The higher up off the ground you are, the safer you are.
INFORMATION:
1. To see how tremors sound/act you can check out this clip here. Warning - it is gory/loud.
2. Since tremors are ordinary creatures - things like magic wards will not stop them. They must be stopped with blunt force. If magic can provide some sort of blunt, literal force then it may be applicable.
3. While ordinary weapons can be used against these creatures, things made for heavy-duty combat will be ideal. Antlers/bones from skeletons found in past months will be extremely effective.
4. These are extremely destructive creatures and will be responsible for most of the buildings destroyed in April. You may have them destroy your character's personal home if you want. That is entirely optional and players can feel free to have tremors simply not arrive near their homes. There is plenty of noise to distract the tremors to other parts of the town.
THE MOUNTAINS HAVE EYES
Start Date: April 11th
End Date: End of May
Location: Everywhere
What comes down from the Mountain aren't exactly people. They look vaguely humanoid, but their skin has been caked with green and brown sludge, their bodies distorted, mutilated either on purpose or after a hard life, or perhaps that is simply how they are born - not likely they'll tell you. The Thenns are intelligent and violent. They speak English but communicate with one another using distinct bird songs and whistles to communicate throughout the cavernous slopes of the mountain at a range. They blend into their backgrounds using clothes made out of boiled leather, used clothing taken from Sleepers - whatever resources they seem to find, using mud smeared over their skin, and they are hunting for survival.
They will hunt any animal but it seems like their favorite to hunt are Sleepers and Wastes. They will set intricate traps out in the National Park, but they will also break into homes and take people in the night. At least you know how some people are vanishing this month. They seem to know how to avoid the tremors. They walk over rooftops and travel through the trees. They also have gliders made out of dried leather that they wear on their backs to silently glide through the air for a few feet or a dozen if they get a good gust of wind.
They can use your home against you, use your panic against you. And they definitely want you. They seem to prefer the taste of Sleepers above all else and will drag you back into the mountains and take you down into dank, foul-smelling caves. Some might just try to eat you right then and there. They are torturous creatures and seem to enjoy inflicting pain. They might have once been humans but have become corrupt by their own appetite. They have long, slithery black tongues and heightened senses. Their bones don't break, but they can still bleed out if you shoot or stab them right. But they are fast.
These creatures also seem to know the layout of the town better than anyone. They seem to know every sewer, every tree, every home. They cannot be reasoned with. They barely like to speak to Sleepers, but they do make one thing perfectly clear: "Sometimes the Hunters must be Hunted."
The worst part might be their Sleeping Needles. These are unique needles that they have compiled that are able to tranquilize any Sleeper and nullify their powers. They are also responsible for constructing the odd rope. So these creatures seem to be capable of some form of magic as well. Be smart, Sleepers. Be careful.
INFORMATION:
1. These Thenns will eat Sleepers alive. They will also go above and beyond to torture them as well. They seem to enjoy playing with lives and causing pain, so you can go as hard into the torture element as you like. They will mutilate with weapons/machines/etc.
2. The Sleeping Needles cause temporary nullification of abilities. It can take anywhere from a day to a week to get your powers back. This nullifying needle will also generally weaken and tire out any Sleeper regardless of power.
3. These Thenns can be killed with ordinary weapons. Their bones cannot break, and they bleed much slower than a typical person, but they do eventually bleed out if you get them just right.
