WELCOME TO DEERINGTON!

Hello new players, and hello old players with new faces! We're thrilled to have you in the game and we hope your time here is horrifically wonderful! Please feel free to use this space to introduce yourselves to one another and show off your new characters! Below is some useful information for all new players of the game and how you can expect the game to function! You certainly do not need to read it in order to plunge into the game, but we felt it might prove useful for some people and help you adjust to how the game works quicker!

EVENTS AND MEMES

We have an IC Prelude Post made by our NPC, the Dog Keeper, in the DeerFeed community. This functions as an edition of the Deerington Post that all characters are ICly capable of receiving. It will give hints and suggestions to what you can expect from the upcoming event without giving full details, and it also clarifies things like the weather in Deerington or other important IC details for the month, such as severe impacts on characters or the environment. Prelude Posts are made at the first of every month.

We hold one event per month. Many of our events have a lasting impact on characters that will sometimes carry over a month or two after the original posting. We always clarify what parts of these events may carry over, and even as a new player, you may be able to access certain elements from events posted before you were in game! Events can be found in the deerington community and carry over events will be linked in the new event posts for reference.

We provide content warnings for each of our events. Each event typically has a specific horror focus, and some events may be more specific than others. Please make sure to read the content warnings closely. All of our events are specifically designed so players can feel comfortable opting out of any of the events without completely missing out on what's going on. Never feel you have to engage with any part of an event that makes you uncomfortable!

With every event we post a plotting post so that everyone can dig in on what they want to plan for the event. This is posted at the same time as the event.

We have a CR meme that is posted every other month. This encourages people to make long-term plans with each other as well as catch up on what characters might be going through in the game!

Our Test Drive Meme is posted on the 25th of every month. All TDM events can be used in game canon! You can also use direct TDM posts as AC! 10 points for a top-level (new characters only), 3 points per log comment, 1 point per network comment (all players).

Our Activity Check always begins on the first and closes on the fifth. Please remember to comment to this post so you can submit your AC! One of our players has made a helpful tracker for those who may be interested!

USEFUL LINKS AND INFORMATION

While we have provided you with your essential links for joining the game, we have compiled a useful list of links you might be interested in for further immersion of the game!

↪ The Dog Keeper: The Dog Keeper is probably the most interactive and consistent of the NPCs in our game. You can actively contact and communicate with the Dog Keeper, but don't always expect an immediate response! Heck, sometimes he won't respond at all. You can find further information about the Dog Keeper here and more about his dogs here.

↪ The Deerly Beloved App: This was a "dating application" made for the game back in the 2019 February Event. The application is a bit of a hacking-app that will break itself into a character's phone and potentially use fourth wall information to make up a silly Tinder-style profile. Feel free to put this on your journal for your character and have fun with it! It is 100% optional.

↪ The Bestiary: This is a good reference to the beasts your character may be able to interact with inside of the game. Some of them are very situational or location based, but we have provided the monsters that might routinely be seen throughout the game. Feel free to dig right into playing around with them!

↪ Game Calendar: Most of our posts are consistently made the same dates every month, such as our AC and our applications, but we make sure to post when game-events can be expected! Most game events are made between the 11th to the 15th. We try to update the calendar at least one week before the end of each month.

↪ Death Certificates: This will help you keep track of your character's deaths in game as well as any symptoms they might be experiencing. Most new characters won't have to worry about this but heck, what do we know? Maybe you'll want to get to dying sooner than most!

This is Billy Hargrove from Stranger Things and he's a disaster of a teenager who likes fighting, driving, smoking, drinking, fighting, flirting, bullying, yelling, fighting, bossing people around, sex, denim jackets, and also fighting. As of his current canon point he's had ZERO experience with monsters or the supernatural or anything like that so he's completely unprepared and hiding his anxiety with even more aggression.

His first few events are likely going to leave him an absolute mess because he does not know how to cope with this and I am heartily looking forward to pushing him to the limit where he actually does something crazy and asks for help or shows vulnerability or something crazy like that.

Hello! My name is Ran and I was in the game for a little bit before and have finally returned with Riku from Kingdom Hearts!! He'll be coming in from after KH3 so please let me know if you want to avoid spoilers.

Riku is a teenage boy who has had multiple games dedicated to his teen angst and drama, but he is finally, finally, maturing into a reasonable human being thanks to the help of his good friend Mickey Mouse. Do not be fooled by his cool and muscular exterior - he is mostly just a socially awkward guy who wants to protect his friends and carries a big car key around.

He's really trying to be a good hero so he'll likely be around helping people out if they need it. Different worlds and dream worlds are old news to him so he can help out newbies too. He just might accidentally sound rude or weird by talking a lot about darkness in the process. Give him a chance.

Colin here (I also play Thor) with an OC. He's coming in with CRAU from a game he was in for a few months back in the days of LJ. The set up was a bit similar, so he'll at least have a little context for what's happening, but he will NOT be happy about it. Then again he's never happy about anything. He prefers to stuff down all of his emotions and hide them all with things like anger and loud yelling. And he really hates angels, cause in the last game one told him that his mom deserved to be murdered.

He's also from a world where it's pretty common to have super powers. He thinks he doesn't have any but he's in for a big surprise over the next few months. So if he gets mad, stuff tends to break...like concrete or glass.

jack's a fucking weirdo, let me just lay that down right off the bat. for anyone not used to spn, it's bonkers in the way BtVS is bonkers, so it's only mildly surprising that the son of satan is a precious little naive marshmallow who loves nougat and star wars and wears velcro shoes while fighting off the apocalypse. being the OP as frick antichrist, jack aged himself from newborn to 18ish in a matter of a few seconds, but he's only actually had a year worth of real life experiences. in some ways, he's a grown ass person, and in some ways, he's still touching walls and being amazed that they exist, idk, like i said, he's weird.

otherwise, he's a little ray of sunshine, who's just kind of an alien when it comes to social situations, but has a heart of gold and really wants to do his best to help people and be of use to people around him. also, if anyone wants to adopt a child, he already has 3 surrogate dads, but he can always use more because he is an actual fucking mess of a human being. please care for him and hold his hand while he crosses the street (even if the car is likely to be more hurt than he is by a collision), thank you.

Hey everyone, it's Taku again! The player behind Mary (portraitor) who is now bringing in a second character in the form of this sassy boy: his parents call him Yoshiya Kiryu, but you can call him Joshua. He's originally from the game "The World Ends With You", but he also makes an appearance in the Kingdom Hearts series (Dream Drop Distance specifically), which is where his canon point here in Deerington is going to be from. No fancy keyblade like those other swell folks from the KH series, but he's got some of his own tricks up his sleeve to compensate. this month, I bring you a creature of my own making: Ben Dearborn is a fussy, old-fashioned academic (assisting professor at a college in London, who conducts field work in his concentration world religious studies) and unorthodox demonologist, who ties in his professional life to pursue the study of the presence of malevolence across the world. Ben, an agnostic at best with a catholic upbringing, studies and observes cultures and creeds and the people who report having seen, interacted with, or been the victim of demonic influence.

he might also just happen...to be adept...if not particularly skilled...in performing exorcisms? it's no big deal and don't tell the church about it.

so, imagine if Giles from Buffy was the main character of Constantine (but when I say 'Constantine,' I'm admittedly thinking of the Keanu Reeves one, because I would love Tilda Swindon to play Ben's guardian angel... oh, yeah, that's a thing; Peter has been around since Ben was a child, acting as his demon-punching familiar. more hilariously, instead of their typical people-y form, they appear in Deerington as...a bird. Ben's life has always been a weird anime, and now, it's becoming hatoful boyfriend. this is pretty typical for him.)

Ben isn't going to be ripping demons out of anyone here, most likely, it's not a willy-nilly sort of thing. but he has spent a lot of his time practicing more esoteric things — all subjects that fall under the umbrella term witchcraft, and wards and sigils are a particular favorite of his.

I love weird, creeps, and spooks; I eagerly want to see him in these weird situations being absolutely unamused, or completely thrown for a loop. I'd love to put him with all sorts of odd types for him to be with, and want to see him get into FEAR! haven't decided a profession yet, might end up somewhere between the library or teaching. please hit me up for any thoughts or plotting at dearlybeheaded/crybaby#8643!

Bill is coming in from the end of the summer just after the blood pact he had with his friends after "defeating" It in the sewers for the first time. He's 12, he's depressed, and he can't talk so good, so please be gentle with this good boy.

I do have an opt-out post in his permissions page on his journal that has a lot of content warnings from Bill's canon; IT is extremely disturbing and deals with a lot of abuse, trauma, and murder that is just an every day part of Bill's life, especially after losing his brother. Bill doesn't bring it all up as casually as some of the Losers, but he does sometimes talk about pretty disturbing shit without thinking, so if you need to opt out of some or all interactions with him, please let me know! I will absolutely respect this.

Hello! My name is Fox, and I'm arriving a bit fashionably late to this intro party. I bring you Loki Odinson (Laufeyson), brother of Thor, from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.


If you are not familiar with Loki, he is a prince of Asgard, the God of Mischief, and until very recently was one of the major antagonists in the MCU. While he is not an inherently evil character, he definitely acts purely out of his own self interest and lust for power, and that tends to land him on the opposite side of the MCU heroes. He's a troublemaker with a smart mouth, a powerful sorcerer skilled with illusion and shape-shifting abilities, and he has a bit of a vengeance problem.

So basically, I'm very excited about playing with every single one of you.

edit note: Loki's canon point is post-Ragnarok and pre-Infinity War, so he may be carrying around a certain object but has not yet faced Thanos. He's trying very hard to be less of a "bad guy", but we'll see how long that lasts.

Hello everyone! I'm Chase. I used to be here for a hot second, loved it, but had to drop--and I'm back again! This time I have Quentin Coldwater here from the Magicians. For those not canon familiar, the Magicians is basically what if Hogwarts was a post-grad school, everyone was a hot mess, Dumbledore's an alcoholic, instead of wands they vogue, and also Narnia is totally real place. Quentin's an introvert but not really shy, and a huge dork, specifically of the fantasy genre. He hides himself in books and fantasy because he's full of self loathing courtesy of a lifetime of depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideations. He self medicates a lot, though not as much as some of his friends. Please let me know if depression, suicide, drugs or alcohol bothers you!

He's from the end of the 3rd season so he's mellowed out a bit -- he's generally a pretty pleasant person to talk to, even if he won't let you get a word in edgewise when it comes to all things nerd. He's the guy that got shoved into the locker when he was younger and instead of getting angry about it, he got sad and saved up all his money to go to New York Comicon. Like Josh Hoberman who's already here and Eliot who's just arrived, he's a Magician, which is a fancy way of saying he does cool magic shit.

Hey fam! Lausanne bringing Eliot Waugh from The Magicians. He’s a lot of personality so I’ll try to hit the Important Things. He’s a full on alcoholic and definitely enjoys recreational drug use (sometimes beyond “recreational”). He’s outwardly quite a flippant person and he seems snarky, and he is, but he means well. Ish. He’ll say what he wants when he wants but he has the ability to be nice. What else? He’s quite inwardly screwed up and a little depressed (hence the alcoholism and the larger than life personality). Let me know your trigger warnings because Eliot’s got a lot of shit that can upset people, from an abusive past to his substance abuse. I might make an opt-put post eventually.

Also he’s a magician. He’s telekinetic, but he hardly ventures into that power. Mostly his magic is all about party tricks like enchanting a flask to never empty, but he can technically do magic for just about anything. Questions? Just ask.

this is javid (currently klaus hargreeves) bringing in a second character, who is... i guess a bit unorthodox for me, for multiple reasons.

this is the tetherer, an original character of mine! they are a crau from riverview, where they adopted the name "teth" because they uh didn't have one before. long story. they're a bigender god, but if you meet them you'd really never guess it. they're very human and very, very sheltered, but they somewhat learned how to like exist outside of their religious order in rv (and also got a lil traumatized while they were at it but—)

ANYWAY, they're mostly gonna be real sad about being not in rv because they wanted to stay forever and i'm mean and didn't let them. and they will miss all their friends but will super want to make new ones after they feel a little better.
