December 2019 OOC Introduction!

WELCOME TO DEERINGTON!

Hello new players, and hello old players with new faces! We're thrilled to have you in the game and we hope your time here is horrifically wonderful! Please feel free to use this space to introduce yourselves to one another and show off your new characters! Below is some useful information for all new players of the game and how you can expect the game to function! You certainly do not need to read it in order to plunge into the game, but we felt it might prove useful for some people and help you adjust to how the game works quicker!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR THIS MONTH

Check out this month's Prelude to catch up on what the setting will be for the month! New characters will receive any items/newspaper from the month's Prelude.

Don't forget to claim your December Gift! All new characters accepted during December's application cycle can claim this gift.

Even though characters will be temporarily removed from the setting of Deerington for January and February, please feel free to go ahead with picking out your character's employment and housing options as all characters will return to Deerington as-is come March. The setting of Deerington itself will be completely unchanged and therefor all character homes/jobs/items will be available upon return.

There will be opt-out options for characters to stay behind in Deerington if players really don't want to deal with a settings change. However please note that if a character is not in the settings for January and February that they will not be able to access the prompts for those events.

PRELUDES, EVENTS, AND MORE

You can expect a Prelude post made each month to provide details about Deerington's setting for the upcoming event/month. Prelude posts may just be descriptors of the location or may be deliverable posts by NPCs like Sodder or the Dog Keeper. Preludes occasionally will contain gifts or necessary items for a character! All Preludes are accessible to characters accepted during that month's application cycle. For example: the Prelude for December has gifts and settings that are accessible to every character accepted in December.

We hold one event per month. Many of our events have a lasting impact on characters that will sometimes carry over a month or two after the original posting. We always clarify what parts of these events may carry over, and even as a new player, you may be able to access certain elements from events posted before you were in game so always make sure to check out the Preludes for details about any carry-over prompts!

We provide content warnings for each of our events. Each event typically has a specific horror focus, and some events may be more specific than others. Please make sure to read the content warnings closely.

All of our events are specifically designed so players can feel comfortable opting out of any of the events without completely missing out on what's going on. Never feel you have to engage with any part of an event that makes you uncomfortable!

With every event we post a plotting post so that everyone can dig in on what they want to plan for the event. This is posted at the same time as the event.

We have a CR meme that is posted every other month. This encourages people to make long-term plans with each other as well as catch up on what characters might be going through in the game!

Our Test Drive Meme is posted towards the end of each month. All TDM events can be used in game canon! You can also use direct TDM posts as AC! 10 points for a top-level (new characters only), 3 points per log comment, 1 point per network comment (all players).

Our Activity Check always begins on the first and closes on the fifth. All new characters must at least check-in for their first month, but new characters do not technically need to meet AC their first month. Please remember to comment to this post so you can submit your AC! One of our players has made a helpful tracker for those who may be interested!

STARTER INFO

While we have provided you with your essential links for joining the game, we have compiled a useful list of links you might be interested in for further immersion of the game!

↪ Social Media in Deerington: Social Media is a large part of how characters interact in Deerington. They use deerFeed, deerlyBeloved and Staggr. Read up more on how each of these apps function in the game and get your pages set up!

↪ The Dog Keeper: The Dog Keeper is probably the most interactive and consistent of the NPCs in our game. You can actively contact and communicate with the Dog Keeper, but don't always expect an immediate response! Heck, sometimes he won't respond at all. You can find further information about the Dog Keeper here and more about his dogs here.

↪ Game Calendar: Most of our posts are consistently made the same dates every month, such as our AC and our applications, but we make sure to post when game-events can be expected! Most game events are made between the 11th to the 15th. We try to update the calendar at least one week before the end of each month.

↪ Death Certificates: This will help you keep track of your character's deaths in game as well as any symptoms they might be experiencing. Most new characters won't have to worry about this but heck, what do we know? Maybe you'll want to get to dying sooner than most!

Hello! I'm Sage & I'm brand new to Deerington. :D I bring you a double helping of Gyllenhaal, but both very different characters.



First we have David Wayne Loki, ( detectivedwloki )a very dedicated and determined detective who selflessly risks his life for those in peril. But he is highly stressed and often represses many emotions so that it comes out in occasional outbursts and a lot of pronounced blinking. He dresses quite plainly but has visible tattoos, mostly religious or spiritual in nature. He is from the 2013 film Prisoners.

On the other hand, secondly we have Quentin Beck aka Mysterio ( mysterioisthetruth ). He's a tech genius but also an unstable, egotistical showman and arrogant jerk. He likes to portray himself as the hero but he is in it only to make himself heard and for his own selfish ends. He feels unappreciated and craves attention and praise. He is from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, more specifically Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Ben is a good round boy who grows up to be an architect. He enjoys building things, has double jointed thumbs, and will do anything for those he calls friends, so befriend him. He is a good.

hello!! i'm k and i am brand new to the game and bringing in clarke griffin from the 100! she was born in space and thrown into post apocalyptic earth where she's constantly trying to survive post apocalyptic life and doing whatever it takes to keep her people safe and make attempts to save everyone ever. she's the resident medic and also one of the leaders of the group once they are on the ground trying to circumvent wars and various other threats they end up facing while things get progressively gets worse because what is catching a break?

she will be coming from the end of season 4, having just saved her friends and being almost two months post praimfaya (aka nuclear apocalypse 2.0) being the only person left alive on earth trying to do her best to survive after miraculously surviving overexposure to radiation all thanks to her nightblood status. she is currently in somewhat rough shape and still recovering from the aftermath of praimfaya but i am excited to have her in game while she attempts to awkwardly try to adjust to other people just existing!! and be social again after being isolated and on her own for months.

hey, i'm froot, what up!!! i'm bringing in hei from darker than black. he's a mercenary who specializes in assassinations, acquisitions, and used to babysit people who could've killed him with their minds. and tried to several times.

suffice to say his life hasn't been the easiest. he's chalk full of trauma and has a difficult time coping with that, which conveniently explains all of his hang-ups and dickish attitude for me. it's not all bad, though — he's a great cook, has a dark sense of humour, and is handy for keeping the electricity on. hei's a human power generator who can discharge powerful enough electricity from his body to alter matter on a quantum level (think doctor manhattan, but he's too much of a dumb-ass to figure out his own abilities), so abuse his powers all you like during our upcoming winter hell.

SUP DEERINGTON! it's been a hot minute, but my name is Chrissy and i'm BACK. with a wildly different character than i had here last time. today I'm here intro'ing Miss Nancy Wheeler of the Stranger Things variety. she was given the nickname "nancy drew" by her misogynistic coworkers, but it's pretty dang accurate. she's a tough cookie and also a total nerd. but also a monster hunter, back home. she likes tracking down the truth! and monsters!

i'm so bad at intros, i'm so sorry.

anyway, she's an aspiring journalist and investigator, but she'll never mention that she's a novice at both because she thinks she's pretty dang good at it. she gives a shit about finding the truth and helping people on a molecular level, and has a very low tolerance for bullshit. just the lowest. she also is an alarmingly good shot with both rifles and pistols. she shot a can off a tree stump in an episode of season one and by the end of the season she was a frickin' sharp shooter. and that was 2-3 years ago from her current canon point, so she's just gotten even better. i have no explanation for this besides tv magic, but i'm okay with it. she came into deerington with a gun, so obviously she's gonna save the day. master monster hunter right here, folks. never fear. ( idk i really don't know what's happening to this intro at this point )

The fitting coincidence of me being accepted to this game on the same day that the Ghostbusters 2020 trailer dropped is not lost on me.

Hello, I'm Nick, and I have The Real Ghostbusters' Venkman on offer! He's coming from the end of season 2, so immediately before the show was throttled by network meddling and Venkman's voice actor changed from Lorenzo Music to Dave Coulier. He's a sort of arrogant dumbass with two PhDs(psychology + parapsychology), some unresolved personal issues, and little to no common sense; but some redeeming qualities, such as strong loyalty to his loved ones and sounding functionally identical to Garfield. Because of the way Ghostbusters' canon works, he and the rest of the Real Ghostbusters are an alternate universe's version of the guys in the original Ghostbusters films and timelines, with some very clear differences in personality and appearance. Additionally, in-universe, the Ghostbusters movie exists and is a fictional portrayal of real events. It's a bit confusing.

I've been playing him for... almost exactly a full year now, actually? In twelve days it will have been a full year. That said, he wasn't actually my first choice for this game- those would be Daniel from Amnesia the Dark Descent and Childs from The Thing, either of whom are still on the table for me apping in in the future? If I have the time to do that in the first place. I'm a college student who also does wildlife rehab/clinic volunteer work, so my schedule can get hectic depending on the time of year.

Hello Deerington!! I'm Moz and I'm bringing in K from Blade Runner 2049. He's not only an android, but a blade runner — the in-universe term for the cops who are essentially bounty hunters, assigned to hunt down and kill rogue androids. Yep. He kills his own kind. And has no choice in the matter, being a Nexus-9 model programmed for absolute obedience to his handler.

Because his canon point is midway through the movie (which I highly recommend checking out if you haven't seen it yet! just don't expect a mindless action movie, because it definitely isn't that), he's still very much subject to that obedience, doesn't actually even consider himself a person, and hasn't yet discovered the joys of free will. He has a long road ahead of him on his journey to personhood. I welcome any and all found family CR, just saying. And he's had a wild time in Deerington already, killing Krampus with Clint Barton on the TDM. Good times.

He also arrived with his flying car, so that's gonna be fun.

This is Sasuke Uchiha, a grumpy and extremely morally confused ninja whose humble quest to avenge his family's deaths led to him helping to start a world war. He's both socially and technologically incompetent (at best) and specializes in making absolutely horrible decisions that he somehow thinks are intelligent. His favorite activities are walking, training, and hanging out with cats.



For those who are canon-familiar, he is circa series end but before his final climactic fight, meaning he has both arms still and dreams of seriously impractical revolution. Howdy! I'm Lauren and I'm showing up late to the party with one (1) dinosaur.

Vasiliy's TLDR is that he was originally born in 1910 in St. Petersburg and joined the NKVD (ie, the KGB before it was known as the KGB, more-or-less) in 1937, at the beginning of the Great Terror. He played the "good cop" interrogator (the Soviets used a split interrogation style in which one interrogator would present themselves as a rational, sympathetic person with the accused's best interest at heart and the other would use violence and threats if the prior wasn't able to get them to sign a false confession) for three years, and then was interrogated and executed in 1940 like everyone before him when the commissar who appointed him fell out of favor. He then woke up in 2015 in rural nothern Russia for reasons he has yet to figure out — complete with a documented presence in the Russian legal system claiming he was born in 1985 — and spent two years keeping a low profile while training as an EMT, then immigrated to the US.

Vasiliy's coming to Deerington after three years of living in the modern world - 2 in Russia, 1 in America - so he's come a long way deprogramming-wise but still has quite a ways to go. He's going to continue his job as an EMT at the hospital both because he enjoyed it and because—despite being an atheist—he perceives working in emergency medicine as a cosmic way of balancing out some of the harm he did before he was killed. His app is here and has some relevant information on his sundry idiosyncrasies.

Because of Vasiliy's whole Thing, he comes with a fair number of content warnings, so if you'd like to opt out of any of that or would prefer not to interact I have a warnings/opt out post here.

Hi guyssss, it's me, Julio, the guy who plays Max Caulfield from Life is Strange!

I've got a new character! His name is Harry Du Bois and he's from the game Disco Elysium. He's actually a damn good detective, but he's a mess of a human being otherwise. He has very large substance abuse issues, which are there to help him cope with his depression and growing schizophrenia. Right now he's suffering from amnesia, so isn't sure what his real name is and is lacking a great deal of knowledge regarding himself and where he comes from.

He comes from the fictional world of Elysium, specifically from the city of Revachol, where he's a detective in the citizen police force. I promise he's a well meaning guy, he just has a ton of issues that make interactions with him... difficult. Crazy!
