Mod Post

(Apologies for making a mod post from my personal RP journal, but apparently you need a paid account to make a poll pls ignore)

Hello Deerlings! As many of you know, our October Prelude was posted earlier to help people with planning. Many players have appreciated the additional time and some have asked if the actual events could be posted ahead of their technical "start dates" - however we do not want players to feel overwhelmed with content either.

We would like to hear everyone's feedback on whether they think this would be helpful as a whole or if it would feel overwhelming.

The general idea would be that we post events ahead of their "start dates" as well as plotting posts so people could get their ideas and plans ready ahead of time rather than our current system where we post the event on the actual start date.

Let us know your thoughts and opinions in a comment below or vote on our poll!

When would you prefer events be posted?

I prefer our current system of how events are posted.
5 (7.9%)

A week+ ahead of "event start date" for all events.
38 (60.3%)

Only a week+ ahead of "event start date" for bigger events.
16 (25.4%)

I don't have a preference.
6 (9.5%)

Would this mean that event log posts will go up but wouldn't be available to be commented on until the start date?

Is there an option to post the plotting post early, so people can get their plotting done, then post the event log on the date itself? I feel like that's what I would prefer.

Seconding this. I think the plotting post would get a lot more use if it popped up a little earlier.

Yes, the event log posts would go up ahead of the start date with disabled comments. We would then turn the comments back on when the actual event start date occurs.

However, players would be allowed to post catch-alls to the log community if they wanted to get a jumpstart.

This might be a good idea for an additional reason. Usually when I post plotting comments I have to make sure to have the event log post in another tab and have to keep going back and forth, but having all of the event details in the plotting post rather than the log post would make that a bit easier!

To be brutally honest this is actually why I don't even bother with the plotting post. Going up at the same time as the log, I end up overwhelmed because if you aren't there to get a jump on it, your plotting comment goes unnoticed. Going up earlier what allows someone who doesn't get a lot of hits on a plotting comment to have time to Branch out and poke at other people.

This right here! It can be really tricky to get a plotting comment up that way! Having them all in one for us to read and plot with and THEN have the log go up later on in the week would be aces.

The idea would be to post both the plotting post and event together earlier. The comments on the actual event post would be disabled until the start date so that players could appropriately plot ahead of time.

The event details have to be posted at the same time as plotting as they are too specific/detailed to simply give hints for. It would be no different than the current system with preludes. Posting the event with the plotting post ensures people can fully flesh out their plotting.

yeah I never end up using the plotting post for the same reason. If I'm just going to be tagging around, I might as well skip straight to tagging the log.

Yus. This solves that problem wonderfully.

It might mean more people make their own open posts in general but I think it works out fine.

Oh this makes sense, I see what you're saying.

Would it work if the event itself was posted inside the plot post itself and then the actual interactive-part posted fresh to the log page once the start date happens?
suchmiracles: (look; creature)

[personal profile] suchmiracles 2020-10-01 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yea, I think this would work and be a lot simpler to understand than having a log post with disabled comments (which might get lost on the comm/reading pages before the start date).

Completely agree! That does make a lot more sense. Thank you for the suggestion.

Yes indeed, that'd make things so much easier!

I honestly love how the prelude was set up because people can jump in and forward date threads ahead of time incase their castmates or CR get busy-- especially with the coming holiday season. This way, we didn't feel pressured to do everything in a short period, and since we're already pretty backtag friendly it's really working out.

I've had the same problem a good number of months in the past, having time to poke around would be really really helpful.

+1 to the idea in this thread!

I voted before reading the responses to the entry but if I could, I'd put my vote toward this idea.

Also +1ing that idea! It sounds like the best solution to me.

I feel similarly. While I have posted to the plotting posts since I joined the game, it did feel overwhelming to have the plotting post and actual event go live at the same time, and it came with me feeling like I had to rush my plotting so that I could get ahead to actually playing things out. By posting the plotting post in advance, it can help us to take our time planning things out and help to see that more people get attention in planning for events, rather than ending up hurrying to get to the top leveling phase.

Seconded! It's been a lifesaver to have the extra time, especially for a heavy month like this one.

Another +1, please do this (info in the plotting post, interactive log separate)! Way more intuitive and less awkward tabbing back and forth.

It will also mean we can go back to review event info without having to wait for past-captcha pages to load, in the future.

[personal profile] 69ing 2020-10-02 03:18 pm (UTC)(link)
..This is ..such a great point. The captcha is miserable to deal with.

yes this! i need to hiatus for a significant part of this month so being able to forward-date prelude things was amazing
