WELCOME TO DEERINGTON!

Hello new players, and hello old players with new faces! We're thrilled to have you in the game and we hope your time here is horrifically wonderful! Please feel free to use this space to introduce yourselves to one another and show off your new characters! Below is some useful information for all new players of the game and how you can expect the game to function! You certainly do not need to read it in order to plunge into the game, but we felt it might prove useful for some people and help you adjust to how the game works quicker!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR THIS MONTH

Check out this month's Prelude to catch up on what the setting will be for the month! New characters will receive any items/newspaper from the month's Prelude.

Our plotting post with details on our event is live here! Please feel free to dig right on in with the plotting.

Please read our Story So Far post that will be available to all characters ICly. This is a good point of reference for anyone who wants to dig into the meaty core of the game's story.

Requirement for all new characters: Please make sure to comment with your character to the AC Page by the 20th. We will assume you've withdrawn your acceptance if we don't see your character on the AC page by then. This would be seen as idling out and you would have to wait for one application cycle before reapplying.

Content Warnings: Please make sure to check out our player-maintained content warnings excel sheet. We strongly encourage all players to fill this out.

PRELUDES, EVENTS, AND MORE

20-25th of Each Month:

You can expect a Prelude post made each month to provide details about Deerington's setting for the upcoming event/month. Prelude posts may just be descriptors of the location or may be deliverable posts by NPCs like Sodder or the Dog Keeper. Preludes occasionally will contain gifts or necessary items for a character! All Preludes are accessible to characters accepted during that month's application cycle. For example: the Prelude for December has gifts and settings that are accessible to every character accepted in December.

11th of Each Month:

A plotting post containing the event prompts will be posted so that players can read the event and plan for it ahead of time. There should be time for new players to get in on the plotting since all events officially go live on the 15th.

15th of Each Month:

We hold one event per month. Many of our events have a lasting impact on characters that will sometimes carry over a month or two after the original posting. We always clarify what parts of these events may carry over, and even as a new player, you may be able to access certain elements from events posted before you were in-game so always make sure to check out the Preludes for details about any carry-over prompts!

We provide content warnings for each of our events. Each event typically has a specific horror focus, and some events may be more specific than others. Please make sure to read the content warnings closely.

All of our events are specifically designed so players can feel comfortable opting out of any of the events without completely missing out on what's going on. Never feel you have to engage with any part of an event that makes you uncomfortable!

Mini-Events:

Some game-meta mini-events will be posted along with every other event. Clues to how to access these mini-events will be given in prior months. These mini-events are for players who want to get heavily involved in the story elements of the game. They are entirely optional. All mini-events are logged here and can be accessed at any time during your time in Deerington. All mini-events were created so that players can take their time exploring the story elements on their own schedule.

Every other 15th of the Month:

We have a CR meme that is posted every other month. This encourages people to make long-term plans with each other as well as catch up on what characters might be going through in the game!

End of Month:

Our Test Drive Meme is posted towards the end of each month. All TDM events can be used in game canon! You can also use direct TDM posts as AC! 10 points for a top-level (new characters only), 3 points per log comment, 1 point per network comment (all players).

STARTER INFO

While we have provided you with your essential links for joining the game, we have compiled a useful list of links you might be interested in for further immersion of the game!

↪Story So Far provides a general timeline of events that have occurred in-game for the first two years, just about. You do not need to read all of this to get into the game, but it may help with characters who are investigative.

↪ Social Media in Deerington: Social Media is a large part of how characters interact in Deerington. They use deerFeed, deerlyBeloved and Staggr. Read up more on how each of these apps function in the game and get your pages set up!

↪ Death Certificates: This will help you keep track of your character's deaths in-game as well as any symptoms they might be experiencing. Most new characters won't have to worry about this but heck, what do we know? Maybe you'll want to get to dying sooner than most!

Hello! I'm Alex and this is my third time in Deerington, having previously been here twice before with one Tina Goldstein. This time I'm bringing in a character who is...pretty much the opposite of Tina in every conceivable way, lol.

This is Dean Winchester from Supernatural, the original universe version, to be specific, and because I'm awful he's coming in from the very end of 4x01, "Lazarus Rising," fairly fresh from Hell and having just discovered angels are real. Good times. He's also very much not dealing with having just spent 40 years in Hell, so expect to see him avoiding dealing with his traumas at any cost. (What even are healthy coping mechanisms?!)

Hello everyone! I'm Brandon and this is actually my second go round in Deerington. Before, I brought in Elena Gilbert, a vampire, and Derek Hale, a werewolf. So, this time around, I'm bringing someone who hunts both of those! But, with better and more well rounded morals. (One of his friends is actually a werewolf.

This is Sam Winchester from that long running show, Supernatural currently in its' fifteen and final season! He's one of two brothers who are walking spoilers at every part of their canon, but especially right now as I am taking him from 15x13 Destiny's Child. The gist is, he was raised a hunter, broke away to go to college and then was dragged back after losing his fiancee to a fire. Needless to say, mythology expanded a great deal. Sam is friendly, diligent, and hard working. He's raising a half angel, half human named Jack, and currently dealing with a whole bunch of life-altering soul-crushing spoilers. While he's better at dealing than his brother, he's still equally bad at coping when he wants to be.

Supernatural is also a heavily meta world and canon, so it doesn't bother me if you canon puncture. They have a book series written about them and they once discovered the TV show in an alternate universe.

Hey, I'm Nights, but I also go by LT, whatever sticks for you works for me. I am bringing with me David Singh from the DC Comics-verse New 52 flavor just to add even more confusion to the multiverse mix. David will be taken post-Grodd invasion so after issue #17 for your reference.

This version of David is the Director of the CCPD crime lab and if it wasn't evident before, he bleeds stress and coffee. So Deerington is going to be a change of pace for him, the stress will likely just evolve into something else. He's not much of a believer in the supernatural because science, so he'll have to reassess everything he's ever believed. It'll be great.

On top of being the director of the crime lab, David is also a detective and he has a distaste for costumed crimefighters and speedsters (typically ones that go by the name The Flash) but any speedster my trigger him out of habit so there is that. Superheroes will get the biggest internal eyeroll ever.

David's hard candy shell protects his soft nougaty core and while he might be a jackboot to work for he's a no man left behind sort who cares. Maybe too much. About everything. Might be why he's a stressed-out cluster frock of a human being.

Heeey Deerington, this is Inky, player of local trashcan on fire, Endverse!Cas from Supernatural. For some more adorable but no less traumatic CR, I'm bringing you Eleven from that nostalgia vehicle also known as Stranger Things.

She comes in with some CRAU, which notably gives her a lantern holding her life force (yes, she dies if the lantern goes out or breaks), as well as knowledge of some cross canon characters in the game, and faded claw shaped scars on her neck. Hey there. This is Jesse, back with character number two. Meet Jack Kline, the latest in the steady influx of Supernatural characters. Jack is a Nephilim, the son of Lucifer to be exact. Despite the way he looks, he's still only about a month old, so he's still learning how the world works. And what better role models for prime human interactions than the Winchesters? He's screwed.

He's coming fresh from the end of 13x04, so he's still firmly attached to a moose and just starting to get along with a squirrel. But he's a very friendly guy who just wants to prove to the world that he can be good, just like his mom wanted. So he's always up for meeting new people.

Hi, Deerington! I'm Crow, and this is Vaia. I'm very excited to be here! c:

Vaia was snatched from a (destroyed) human colony when she was a baby, so she has no idea what species she is or what a human even is. She was raised by the force that destroyed it, the Sway, a solar-system-conquering empire, thoroughly brainwashed into thinking they were the only Good Guys in the galaxy, and was eventually made a conqueror herself. Less than a year ago, a group of revolutionary ex-Sway kidnapped her and re-educated her on what things are really like, and Vaia's been grappling with that ever since. She carries a lot of guilt around with her for what she's done — though she had little say in it, as a slave soldier — and she's also fully committed to being a better person in the future. Her real true love is engineering, not combat, and she's absolutely going to try and use that here in Deerington. She's also got a shaky grasp on language, since communicating just enough to be coherent was all the Sway bothered with, but she's learning. c: Vaia's full info can be found here if anyone's curious.

Taiyang is the father of Ruby Rose and Yang Xiao Long, and a teammate of Qrow Branwen. Hello Deeries! My name is Kathrine and I am bringing an original character, Sarona Gayle into the game. She can be loud and abrasive, but also very supportive to people she thinks just need that extra push to succeed. Girl thinks she knows everything or if she doesn't, give her an hour. She's 17 going on 60 in her mind, but girl could stand to slow her roll a little.

Sarona comes from a world with different forms of magic and bridge to another world called The Mystlands where a lot of supernatural people live and shit keeps happening. Don't go there, it sucks (in her very biased opinion). Her brand of magic is Runes and she has quite a few tattooed on her body. The antler tattoo will be the least weird thing about this place to her. She also likes to make golems, but said golems will be malfunctioning a bit in game, which could be interesting to play out? hello, i am fire, i am a she/her. i'm bluecanary and Fire#9401 on discord. i was voted "least likely to make a good post" in high school. my doctor has advised me that if i don't get enough negative CR, i could die, so i try to only play insufferable little bastards, large apocalypse shit heels, and 2013 tumblr horny energy heat sinks. this is my first time here. milk just explained ctrl-F to me with absolutely no irony and it was the funniest shit thats happened to me all month.

this is a nice little singing and dancing top hat man, bill cipher, from disney's gravity falls for ages 8 to 14. he glows and he is magic. great with kids. always ready to lend a hand. just a real pal, and a friend, and there is absolutely nothing to worry about? six companies do not run everything. the wealthiest governments in the world are not slowly being squeezed by an extradimensional entity that is feeding on capitalism like a tick feeds on a vein. everything will probably be okay.

bill is a CRAU, coming from the last voyages, where he's been shaken around on a boat for about 4 years and has had a pretty bad time but in a completely different way than deerington is a bad time. more of a perpetual, ongoing argument about the nature of ethics. he has mellowed out a lot, which is good news for fans of not being stabbed. did i say stabbed? just kidding. appreciated, and supported as a friend.

im not keeping TDM threads as canon because i think bill is going to go a little more cautiously for his entry than he did in the TDM. but i enjoyed all of them, and if we end up in similar conversations later i'm totally good to just plug the discussions we had there in.

i'm cool with people recognizing bill from TV but its not like its a massive part of the pop culture or anything. he knows he's from a show and that he's fictional. he had a fist fight with alex hirsch on a disused fire escape behind a TGI fridays, but they both have super skinny arms so it was just kind of sad to watch.

residents in town may notice a friendly hot air balloon whose eyes always face you no matter where you're standing, floating over the national park; or a townsperson whose theme is pale yellow that stares at you, smiling, from the other side of the street. his neck has got to hurt, turned at that angle. here is an opt in for being spied on and having your dreams watched by a helpful friend who will not harm you.

Good evening. My name is Levy and I'm bringing you one professor/witch/magic-user named Qifrey from the little gem of a series called Witch hat Atelier. Qifrey is...something. He's really polite, kind, understanding, and overall a kick-ass teacher but he's also got a huge ass grudge which makes him hellbent on revenge against a certain group of renegade witches (aka the brimhats). He is totally valid I mean they did do some fucked up shit that is spoilers but, yeah, he is totally valid.

He's also got no impulse control when it comes to the brimhats and will immediately be out for blood?? But good thing they're not here so hopefully he will be able to chill the fuck out a little, but no promises!

Fandom likes to call him feral!Ozpin because of his looks but also because he will wreck people's shit if they try to harm his students/friends so I figure he'll be like that here too?? He is an absolute shady fucker but also very dad-like, it's cute but also scary. Don't hurt his not!kids otherwise, he might kill you.

He's very good with kids and adults too so throw whoever you like at him! His world's magic is a bit different than most in that it comes from the ink of a magical plant more than the people themselves so everyone can essentially learn magic??

I guess if people want to learn Qifrey will totally be up for that! It is his thing after all. He primarily excels in water-based magic and will be down for helping people with the newest event! But he also knows other types of magic as well. I'll put up a spell compendium for his stuff in due time, there's...a lot.

Oh, fun fact, he's also missing his right eye and is going blind in his other one so that's fun to have for a horror game.
