Character Name: Hartley Rathaway
Age: 33
Employment in Deerington: He's the sound technician at the Deerington Theatre
Residence in Deerington: 106 Raccoon Alley
Day to Day Activities: When he's not working or dealing with the various threats of the city, he's usually doing something involved with music or hanging out with his various friends around Deerington

About This Character: He's a huge nerd when it comes to sound and the science around it, but that's worked out great for him, as he's unlocked the secrets to hypnotizing people (and rats) with the sound of his music, as well as shattering objects by hitting their sonic frequencies. He'll gladly and eagerly share everything he's learned with anyone who takes an interest.

He's also someone who hates to stand by and let things happen. Whether it's fighting the crushing blows dealt to those in poverty in an uncaring capitalist system, or dressing up in a costume and fighting against people and creatures who threaten people's lives, Hartley generally wants to help when he sees people suffering. He can also be a bit stubborn and impulsive, and often doesn't bother to come up with anything resembling a plan before jumping into action.

Any Warnings: Hartley's parents reacted very badly when he came out of the closet, so there could be mentions of their homophobia. Also, if anyone has a fear of rats, he does have a tendency to keep swarms of rats around.

Present Life: He's gone on a few dates with Rhys, and the two of them got along pretty well, and then he's recently had David show up, who he's just learned is his boyfriend from another timeline. He'll probably have to deal with that at some point, but he figures he doesn't have to yet, because he figures *he's* not the Hartley that's dating David. Even if he does find David really attractive.

Future Ideas: Just general him talking about his alternate timeline boyfriend showing up with people who are close to him and trying to sort out what to do with that. Other than that, just being impulsive and heroic and putting himself in danger and unintentionally making everyone around him worry.

Hartley is going to be the most difficult to reconcile with for reasons and things obviously!

Clearly! He's still curious about the other timeline and David, and he figures it probably won't be much of an issue because David seems to get that he's a Hartley, but not the same one.

Even though it'll be very clear there isn't much of a difference.

That's going to be the real kicker, David's practical enough to know the difference, but his feelings won't give a shit and he'll probably slip at some point. He's still in disbelief and it's difficult for him to take a step back right now when Hartley's not feeling well.

I was actually going to do a 'Hartley's feeling better and wants to jump in a sinkhole' post soon, if you want to give him a chance to have a new headache. He could shoot a private message to David asking if he prefers coffee or adventure.

I mean for David it would be coffee all day, but I like it when David has his headaches too and he'll chase Hartley into a sinkhole because he doesn't want Hartley to go alone. There will be so many whys~~~ but Hartley always wins.

Oh, I thought of another thing, Hartley's never banished his ghost, so if people go to the spot where he died they can see his ghost reenact his death. I don't know if you want David to deal with that, but that's another idea for him to deal with.

You mean you want a distraught David showing up at your place in the middle of the night because he ran into your ghost and it devastated/traumatized him. Well, that can absolutely be arranged!

Yes, yes I do want David to deal with that.

David is going to ask what he meant when he was talking about ghosts at some point while they're exploring and then he's going to do his own investigating and when he stumbles on this he's going to get very drunk very quickly. The distress and insomnia will kick in and he'll have to visit Hartley because that's not getting out of his head any time soon.

Hartley will deflect when they're exploring and just explain the ghosts and mention there's one he keeps seeing lately and he wonders if it'll just stay like that. He'll leave out that it's his own ghost.

I hope Hartley enjoys late-night visits because that horror show is going to fule David's nightmares for a very long time.
