aka what the heck is this?
- Wanda's having a mental breakdown.
She's arrived in Deerington from the tail end of Avengers: Endgame. For Deerlings who aren't familiar with the MCU, the tl;dr is that Wanda killed her robot love to save the world from a giant purple man named Thanos… and didn't really succeed in that. Half of the population was erased from existence for five years to only be brought back to life. She's been having a difficult time dealing with her grief and trauma of losing Vision and her brother, Pietro. She's been doing her best to keep her shit together, but looking at something she has of Vision's will send her into a tailspin. You can thank Scott Lang for this breakdown.
Wanda's breakdown will tap into her reality warping and mind control abilities and turn Deerington black and white and the setting and (opted-in) Sleepers into 1950s/1960s sitcom characters. Sleepers will think that they are from the 1950s/1960s and will not remember their life in present Deerington or their life back home. Please see below for the various ways you can be involved!
If you're familiar with WandaVision, think episodes 1x01 and 1x02. If you're not familiar with WandaVision but are with Pleasantville, think that, too.
EPISODE SYNOPSIS.
aka how can i be involved?
- I'm proposing that there are several different ways that interested players can be involved in this plot depending on your comfort levels/ what you want to get out of it with your characters.
SEASON 1: CHARACTERS ARE FULLY IMMERSED.
Sleepers are fully immersed in the reality warp. This means that they are black and white and take on a 1950s/1960s sitcom stereotype. They don't remember who they are and are living a life that's alternative to their own. It's up to you if your character remembers a fake life or if, similarly to WandaVision, they don't remember anything before Sunday 2 May. You're welcome to keep occupations the same or similar.
If you want some ideas on how this could work…
Option 1: Your character who's the perfect wife remembers a life of being happily married with kids and a white picket fence, and they work a boring office job. Their partner could be someone in Deerington (with player permission) or a canonmate who is not in Deerington (aka your Ralph).
Option 2: Your character who's the nosy neighbour doesn't remember where they were on Saturday 1 May and finds that curious, but they have a partner and a cat that they can remember but can't remember having before Sunday 2 May.
SEASON 2: CHARACTERS ARE SEMI-IMMERSED.
Sleepers are semi-immersed in the reality warp. This means that they are black and white and styled like the 1950s/1960s but retain all their memories and agency.
SEASON 3: SLEEPERS AREN'T AFFECTED BUT PLAY ALONG.
This option is for players who want to still play with the player plot but don't want their characters affected by the reality warp/ mind control. Basically: Wanda's control here is murky at best.
Sleepers who aren't affected will remain in technicolour and will retain all of their memories and sense of self. They can still interact with DeerVision where their street may be black and white except for a bright green bush. They might struggle against losing themselves to the reality warp/ mind control but maintain a solid grounding in the present.
SEASON 4: CANCELLATION.
For players who don't want to be involved in the plot. Wherever your character is, Deerington will remain unaffected and you can go about your day-to-day in technicolour and with your 2021 self. All I ask is that you check in with your fellow thread partners who might be participating in this to clear your comfort levels.
HOW DOES MY CHARACTER BREAK OUT FROM THE REALITY WARP/ MIND CONTROL?
Easily! All they have to do is remember who they are. This can be via remembering someone important to them who may or may not be in Deerington or even a memory. Sounds simple, right? It's up to you if merely remembering someone may pull them out of the mind control quickly or if they need to dig deep and be convinced that memory or person is real.
Characters who break out of the reality warp/ mind control before Wanda breaks it will slowly return back to colour.
SERIES FINALE.
aka how does it end?
- At 8pm Deerington time, Wanda will be going on a canon update to experience WandaVision. At this time, DeerVision will collapse and return to its usual technicolour self and characters will regain their senses of self once more. They will remember what it was like to be within the reality warp and remember their time during it. Characters are welcome to keep their 1950s/1960s clothes, courtesy of one heck of a stylist, Wanda Maximoff.
DIRECTOR NOTES.
aka questions/ extra tidbits.
- This theme song (0:00-0:53) from WandaVision 1x01 will play very low and on repeat on the radio and televisions (one per channel, unless you'd like it to overtake all channels). Sleepers are welcome to put the pieces together and determine that this is Wanda.
- I've chosen the 1950s/1960s so players can pick which era they might want their character to be styled as. There will be a mix of the 1950s/1960s in the reality warp. The only things that will be plucked from these eras will be fashion, architecture, cars, music, and even ways that characters used to speak in these sitcoms. I'd like to keep the political climate out of this plot to keep it comfortable for all players.
1950s and 1960s fashion ideas. - Have fun with the stereotypes! Be the nosy neighbour or the perfect husband… Maybe even the Teen Idol who curls his hair like Elvis and likes to check himself out in the mirror. Are you the Queen Bee of the neighbourhood? Want to grease your hair back and be Kenickie? Go for it. Or maybe you'll be the clumsy housewife or the stylish girl who calls everyone a "dreamboat". Are you retaining your magical abilities? Be like Samantha and wiggle your nose! This is an opportunity for players interested in playing with an au version of their character to go wild and do it in style.
That said, please feel free to pick a stereotype and turn it in on its head! - You're welcome to have your character affected as soon as Sunday 2 May or have them step into the reality/ mind control at a later date within the week.
- Initially, Wanda will not be aware that she has caused this to happen in Deerington.
PRODUCTION.
aka logistics.
- I'll put a log up on Saturday 1 May that interested players can tag into. This will include some scenarios to play with, but you're welcome to bring your own.
- I understand that some Sleepers may not be happy with Wanda once she returns from her canon update. I'm completely fine with characters confronting her! Please let me know if you're interested in that kind of aftermath and we can discuss it. c:

Will the term 'gee willikers' count as a swear word?

In the swear jar you go, Glitch. Just get in there.

Ruby's definitely going to be a 50's Greaser.
Someone please street race her even though she's absolutely terrible at driving and will likely crash.
I love this thank you for this opportunity.

Please make sure you have a fake licence with you, Ruby! (All the cool Greasers do. 😉)

Jubilee will definitely get stuck in a 50s outfit. Probably some sort of tomboy punk outfit because she's got a bad attitude and a switchblade.
Definitely would like to play with the aftermath here!

Please! Wanda doesn't really get to deal with the aftermath of doing this in Westview (which is super unfortunate) so I am all for her getting to deal with it plus her comic book version's actions. Please give her the opportunity to learn to never say "No more mutants!"

Additionally I'd love to get some CR with Wanda during or after this, if you want! Orpheus would lean towards being more understanding about everything despite having his memories messed with again, so if it'd help for Wanda to have someone to commiserate about grief with I'd be super down.

Please name your band something ridiculously cute, O!

I hope one of the kids he adopts has chaotic Jason energy just because Michael deserves it. (And please approve of Wanda's architecture! She wants to get into the Good Place!)
