Just a note about the IC fallout of a recent string of network threads!

Ironwood (RWBY) made this post about a recent Maul incident and rule of law, which has blown up to ~800 comments and counting. Ozpin (RWBY), who is familiar with Ironwood's fascist bullshit and much prefers his own imperialistic bullshit, stepped in to suggest Deerington select a group of leaders as the dream falls apart.

Wu (TLoK) is in eager agreement, and wants to create an interim "Sleeper Council" to oversee resource management, rebuilding efforts, and internal justice. The main thread can be threadjacked here. Responses vary from "why didn't we do that years ago" to "that system is a terrible idea" to "guys please the sky is literally falling rn."

With endgame at the doorstep and everyone wrapping up arcs, we don't want to clutter things with a political player plot now, but! For those of y'all coming to CH2, read on.

In CH2, Oz and Wu are likely to propose a 5-7 person elected council. OOCly, this would be a banner under which community-building player plots could be held (like Mako's resource caches, Wu's safehouse, fallout from PC rampage plots if desired, etc). The goal is to create structure similar to FEAR's leadership and give characters an outlet for political intrigue in the new world. We're sure that some characters won't be into this, and half the fun will be seeing how Sleepers argue over the idea.

Feel free to comment here with thoughts on how your character falls on the issue of Sleeper governance, whether you'd like to get involved with Wu and Ozpin in the remaining months of CH1, and what you might want to take into CH2.

UPDATE: Having discussed further with players and mods, we think that whether or not there is IC favor for a new Sleeper organization, we will ultimately have the effort ICly fail. The player plot will just be the proposal of a council and subsequent political arguing, not the successful creation of a council itself. The status quo will remain untouched! This keeps the plot more tidy and self-contained.

Those who want to opt in to discussions about Sleeper leadership can do so by tagging the thread linked above, and keep an eye out for a similar conversation in CH2. Those who aren't interested can safely ignore all mention.

Sometime in early May, an influx of spirits from other worlds will suddenly be pouring into Deerington.

To the untrained eye, they’re invisible. But spiritually-sensitive sleepers might notice ethereal, incorporeal creatures moving through town. And that these spirits are moving with the desperation of somebody who’s drowning and groping for a life raft.

SOMETHING is drawing them toward a singular point, like a moth to a flame.

Having tumbled into a completely different plane of existence, these spirits need something to anchor themselves to: A beacon whose essence is connected to plants, animals and the elements.

Anyone tracing these spirits' movements will discover said beacon: The Spiritwalker, a creature made of spiritual energy (similar to the Nightwalker in Princess Mononoke) — constantly in flux, highly unpredictable, and very dangerous to anybody who encounters it.

Alright, fellow Deer enthusiasts. I put in for a Story Clue a little while back and it's come back to me, and it's a bit of a hum-dinger. Now, because it sounds like we have a busy, plot-centered month in July, and also because I know folks are enjoying the pixie thing, I'm going to try and slot this in cleanly between the two without taking steam away from the July Prelude on June 19th at 6:00 PM EST, give or take. So, yes, tomorrow.

However, I think that this may be a story-related clue that a good number of you might want to be involved with, and because of the nature of this clue and how it impacts a 1 mile spread around Neopolitan when it goes off, anyone in Deerington is welcome to participate. This event is Opt-In but because of its radius anyone can opt-in. However, this one comes with some very Deerington Trigger Warnings:

So, yeah, keep those in mind. I'll put the plot info here in a cut and there will be a public log posted to make the plot available for those who wish to opt into the event/clue with the same CW's listed.

Hi everyone! As a heads up Eddie & Chloe made a character business where people can create memorials dedicated to people from before/during/after Deerington! Characters can create memorials of any kind inside or around the house. There is also a small medical bay in the basement and food stocked in the kitchen. The garden and Green House have medicinal plants as well. They have been working on this FOR A WHILE.

There is an open mingle log for the introduction of this house here. You do not need to have CR with Eddie or Chloe to partake in this open log. It's 100000% open to all characters in game! Anyone can put up memorials and anyone can volunteer to help out.

You can put up memorials of characters who have died in game/before game, characters who have vanished, or just characters yours miss! Doesn't matter. Can also be about pets as well. Please have fun! I mean as much fun as you can have while crying.

For future ref- this IS an open character business and characters can visit at any time. So feel free to make your own logs about this setting/etc whatever/whenever. This is really just the open prompt/log for it to introduce it into game.

ᴡʜᴀᴛ ɪs ᴛʜɪs?
In Jon’s world, there are books generally known as "Leitners." A Leitner may be a duplicate of an existing piece of literature, though with some passages eerily altered, or it may be a completely new work. Each contains a bookplate on the inner cover that reads "From The Library of Jurgen Leitner." For the magically-inclined, the books will also give off INTENSE vibes of power and evil, as though someone took a major eldritch entity and crushed it down into the shape of a book.

ᴡʜᴀᴛ ᴅᴏᴇs ɪᴛ ᴅᴏ?
Each Leitner has three effects:

1. The books compel their readers to keep reading; without interruption or intense willpower, a reader will always finish the book.

2. Reading a Leitner causes unnatural effects in the reader. These effects have been warped to make for more fun and accessible plot hooks. See below.

3. Leitner effects apply to every single reader, not just the first person to discover the book.

4. All books are waterproof and oddly durable, but can be destroyed via burning, ripping, or some other violent end. In canon, these methods have varying results... but to add extra spice, I have introduced "destruction effects" for every book, which will occur no matter the manner of violent destruction. These will generally affect a 50ft (15-meter) radius, including the reader, and effects may last several days.

Details: Overnight, during the middle of April 2020, a new app appears on every active Fluid device. It is an idle game called GROW, a virtual garden/terrarium in which to raise digital plants. It is designed as a fun, calming little time waster app with simple graphics and bright, cheerful colors... but there is more beneath the surface.

Clicking on the tiny icon of a raised middle finger leads the user to an encrypted website: here. This site hosts a database of Sleeper-generated information on the town and first-hand accounts of personal experiences.

Tech Boy has created an uncrackable encryption for this site, allowing Sleepers to share their knowledge without fear of being discovered by The Mayor, Mother Superior, et al. ...or even Sodder herself. Instead of needing to pass all dangerous information in-person, this is an opportunity to safely communicate over greater distances (and maybe coordinate new CR due to shared interests or experiences).

This is a forum for characters to share their IC knowledge of the town of Deerington with other characters securely over the Network. It is a resource that can be pointed to ICly: to document monthly event happenings in one's own words (in as much or as little details as they're comfortable with), to track monster sightings around town, to organize research results or traumatic event experiences (eg. death effects, characters disappearing/going home), to educate new arrivals with a brief overview, etc.

Both the app game and the database/forum is a permanent addition. This is a character run forum. I encourage everyone to contribute and add to the topics as you see fit. If a character has already made a post and would like to link it into that forum, that works perfectly as well!

There will be an in-character announcement from the Technical Boy (brandnewtech) of the hidden site's launch after I get some sleep soon, but characters can enjoy the idle game in the meantime.

Hi everyone! Robin here, with a little player plot action for you all.

In a bid to understand the potential simulation-ness of Deerington, this week Seven of Nine will try to use her Borg augmentations to access her Fluid device. This will involve injecting a small amount of modified nanoprobes into the Fluid. These nanoprobes will do something something tachyons something (insert Treknobabble here) as they attempt (and fail) to assimilate the device, and their presence will briefly disrupt the Fluid network.

Side effects: From 6th - 9th April, characters whose Fluids are affected by the nanoprobes' attack on the network (this can be totally optional) will see their device screen flicker and briefly blink green, then it will return to normal. But the rogue tachyons in the network will mean that for these three days (until the nanoprobes are ejected), messages sent via text or social media will have a 50/50 chance of being sent to the wrong person entirely! Again, this is completely optional, you don't have to have your character's device be affected at all!

The messages will appear to go to the correct person, so the sender won't realise it's been misfired until they get a response!

This will not impact the actual DeerFeed network at all, nor will there be any other side effects from using Fluid devices besides the potential for some embarassment/misunderstandings. Characters who are significantly attuned to the network may be able to pick up on the presence of the nanoprobes and possibly even their origin -- hit me up here or via plurk (laetificat) or Discord if you want to do something fun with this!

Hello everyone! Chase on behalf of the Magicians cast with a bit of a laid back player plot that anyone who wants to be involved in can be! It's tradition in the Magicians TV show to have a musical episode every season and we figured we may as well extend this to the game itself for a laugh and a brief respite from all the terrible things happening to everyone's characters in this sleepy little horror town.

On March 5th the Magicians cast will be attempting a cooperative spell and their casting will go awry. The result will be anyone who wants to opt into the plot will have the compulsion to burst into song, with music (and maybe even background dancers) somehow accompanying them.

We left it pretty open so everyone can play around: your character can sing and dance and have it triggered by intense emotion, or just because you want them to while they're at their day job. The music can be literally anything--and whether or not your character sounds magically good or not is completely up to you! They'll just suddenly automatically know the words, dancing optional. You want your character to bust out a soulful tune because their feelings are hurt, or suddenly confess with a flowery ballad? Now's the time. Want your big macho man to start big band crooning? Looks like he can't help himself. If you want to opt out, the spell won't have affected your character.

Seriously, it can be anything from a sudden urge to sing David Bowie and Queen as a group number or just singing very poorly along to Taylor Swift by your lonesome.

The event will end on March 12.
