Remember I told you about fathiers? I have a couple now and need them to go to good homes. What do you think of this pretty girl?

[She is precious and he can't resist riding his Wuye to pick her up! When they reach Maul's house, he hops off of his back and hurries to the door, knocking enthusiastically.]

[Maul's pleased when his friend arrives. He looks a little run down, the source of which is apparent given the animals scattered all over the yard.]

Ah, Xue Yang. Come. Let me show her to you.

[He takes the man around to the side of the house where the fathiers are grazing on the grass. There's two small babies, the black one whose picture he'd shown and a tan one. They look like a cross between a pair of foals and puppies in appearance. There's something about their eyes that always look eternally sad even though they are both perfectly content at this moment.]

Fathiers are graceful, swift beasts, often ridden on gambling worlds in races. They grow to be about three meters high at the shoulder and are extremely tough. These two little ones could smash right through my house and come out on the other side without a scratch or any broken limbs at all. And they can run on almost any surface, even going vertical up a cliff wall.

[He isn't going to forget his friend in all the excitement. Maul is wrapped in a happy embrace before Xue Yang dares to lay eyes on the fathiers.]

I can help you now that things have calmed down.

[There is concern behind the statement; the last time he saw his friend, he had been in bad shape. Considering how things were going, he assumes that didn't improve.

But the fathiers are an adorable sight! Xue Yang approaches the black baby and kneels down to be less imposing. He stretches out his hands and eventually, when he feels he has permission, rubs those big ears~]

For now, she is going to spend a lot of time getting to know me, Wuye and the Daozhangs. We're not in any hurry for her to grow up!

[Xue Yang is one of the few people Maul will automatically accept a hug from. What can he say? His friend gets him in a way not everyone here does. And he'd tried to help out Maul when he's been at some very low points. A friend in need is a friend indeed and all that.]

I have had quite the experience. I lost myself there for a while even after I was brought back from death. Reaper had to literally punch some sense into me.

[He just doesn't mention that this all happened while he was a deer. Not yet anyway.]

Good. She'll need lots of care for a long while being so young. [Then he pauses.] Daozhangs? [He repeats the unfamiliar word.]

[He has always liked Maul! They are too alike for Xue Yang to have any hesitation in showing affection. And there are times that his friend seems to need contact. Maybe Maul is a bit like him? Always hungry for kindness?

And of course he helps him! What are friends for? When it comes down to it, Xue Yang is a loyal companion.]

As long as they are taking care of you. [Reaper, that is. Bruises heal; sense is a lot harder to find and keep.] I'm sorry I couldn't help.

[He peers up at Maul regretfully, rubbing over the baby fathier's side.]

She'll have it. I won't let anything bad get her.

[Xue Yang chuckles and nods.]

Song Zichen and Xiao Xingchen showed back up and they're living with me.

[They are very alike in that regards. Two dark shadows that yearn for the touch of the light, but don't know how to move towards it without getting burned. But Maul was learning. His friends here had helped with that, Xue Yang included among them.]

He did. He will deny it if he is ever asked, but he cares about certain people deeply. And I am now included among them.

[He's got a dopey look of infatuation on his face as he says that. Maul is well and truly smitten with the man, especially after Reaper had shown how Maul disappearing had messed him up.]

Don't be. Nothing except perhaps the magick my mother once used on me could have restored my sanity by that point. Only death finally freed me from my madness.

[Maul unfortunately was well-acquainted with going insane at this point in his life.]

She eats grass and grain, even some nuts since they have the extra set of teeth to chew them with.

[That's right, there's a second set of flat, herbivorous teeth right behind the first ones.]

I am glad for your sake, my friend. [He knew how heartbroken Xue Yang had been when they had left before.] I met Xiao Xingchen in the library. I warned him that he was not to break your heart again. [Or Maul would kill him. It was an extreme reaction, but then, Maul was an intense person like that.] I hope they like your new pet. You will have to give her a new name.
